James Edward McDonald

James “Jimmy” Edward McDonald was born on October 1, 1941, to Curtis and Dorothy Lofton McDonald in Powhatan, Louisiana. He departed this world on January 1, 2026. His grandchildren jokingly said that Papaw Jimmy made Big Mama wait an extra day for her birthday. Those who knew him knew that he loved to pick almost as much as he loved our Mama. He was in the home that he and his wife, Kathryn “Allene”, had made together when they moved to Provencal, LA, in 1980 with their four children.

At a young age, he was called to preach during a tent revival at Calvary Baptist Church. He said God was ready for him to preach, but he was not. Instead, he joined the Navy and left the little town of Natchitoches, LA, behind. He served proudly during the Vietnam Era. He returned home and made his Mama a promise. He promised her that he would never again go so far away that he couldn’t get home to her and his daddy. He was true to his word and never traveled outside of the United States again. However, he did travel to a little place, Singer, LA.

While in Singer, LA, he met this girl at a skating rink. He convinced her he couldn’t skate, and she offered to teach him. From that chance encounter in a small-town skating rink, a love was born that would bloom into a marriage of over 50 years, four children, 10 grandchildren, and eventually 10 great-grandchildren. In 1983, Jimmy finally listened to God and his loving wife and accepted the call to preach. Our Mama told him, Jimmy, if you don’t follow the path God is giving you, it will destroy you and us. He was ordained to preacher in 1983 and continued to preach until he became ill in October of 2025.

Our Daddy worked hard alongside our Mama to ensure that each of his children knew that we were loved. He taught us from a young age that our priority in life was to serve God. Daddy was a true Christian man. When you saw him, you could see God through him. During all of his years of services he never once boasted “I saved”. He would tell you that God laid on his heart the words to say that lead others to Christ. At the close of each service, with Just As I Am playing, he would say. You don’t have to come to me to be saved. If you feel God moving in your heart, find a place and stop and listen. He will move you where you need to be.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis & Dorothy McDonald; his wife, Kathryn Allene McDonald; his three sisters, Gladys Faye McDonald, Laverne McDonald Foster, and Lavelle McDonald Cocheran. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Halie Diane McDonald, two nephews, Kenneth “Kenny” Bria and James Roy. Also well as a niece, Julia Beth Tindall.

He is survived by his four children, James Wallace McDonald (Terri) (TX), Shelia Flores (Nick) (TX), Clyde “Eddie” McDonald (Amy), LA, and Burton Ray McDonald (Priscillia), LA. His grandchildren: Jason (Leah), Sandy (Clay), Koby (Laney), Sarah Beth (Sammy), Lise (CJ), Meghan (Britt), Angela (Keith), Raeghan, Dawn (Andrew), Kirstin (Zach), Karlie, Bryce (Kayla), Annalese, Kerstin (Hunter), Sebastian, and Nehimah. Great-grandchildren Trent, Tye, Hannah, Clay, C**t, Laney, Charlie, Josie, Lexi, Ryleigh, Sadie Clarie, KJ, Abigail, Austyn, David, Lincolon, Millie, Hallie, Weston & Aubree; a brother, Roy McDonald; and brothers-in-law, Wally Cocheran of OK and Herbert Ray Couley of LA.

Those honored to be pallbearers are his grandsons, Bryce Ray Parker, Freedman “CJ” VanHook, Zachary Wyatt, Britt Rosso, Sammy Robinson, Keith Sarpy, Sr., and Andrew Caspari. Also, his nephew Keith McDonald, who is like a son to him. If you knew our Daddy, you knew that his grandchildren were his greatest gifts until his great-grandchildren arrived. He asked that his granddaugthers and great grandchildren serve as honorary pallbearers; Sarah Beth Robinson (Laney James, Charlie Allene & Josie Lee), Kathryn Lise VanHook (Ryleigh Ann & Sadie Claire), Meghan Elizabeth Rosso (Austyn Grace & David Lane), Dawn Meshel Caspari (Amelia “Millie”, Lincoln Ray, Weston and Aubree), Raeghan Denise McDonald, Angela “Angie” Sarpy (Lexi Nicole, Keith Keoki Jr. (KJ) & Abigail Marie), Kirstin Maria Wyatt (Halie Maria), Karlie Breann McDonald and Kayla Solomon Parker. Also, Jeffery Dale McDonald, his most loved nephew.

Per his instructions, there will not be a traditional funeral. Please join us at the FBC of Provencal for a singing to celebrate his love of Jesus on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 9 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Provencal Baptist Church located at 123 Maple Street in Provencal, LA.

The family would like to thank all those who helped and supported us during this time. Especially, his church families and the Hospice of Natchitoches.

Adrene Methvin McKnight

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost,

to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Adrene McKnight never slowed down long enough to be ordinary. At an age when most people begin to take it easy, she leaned in. She chose adventure over caution, laughter over limits, and met life every day with joy and daring curiosity. In her 60s, she donned red stilettos and fearlessly rode the mechanical bull at Gilley’s. For her 80th birthday, she flew to Puerto Vallarta, where she strapped in and ziplined alongside a guide serenading her with Feliz Cumpleaños as the Sierra Madre mountains unfolded beneath her. At 90, she could still be found dancing at LSU tailgating parties, fully alive in the moment and immersed in the celebration and unmistakable Tiger spirit that surrounded her. On January 1, 2026, at the age of 98, Adrene took her final bow on earth and soared into the loving arms of the family who had gone before her, waiting to welcome her home.

Adrene was born in Natchitoches, LA on September 27, 1927. As the oldest of 14 children, she learned early the value of self-sufficiency, resilience, and finding satisfaction in everyday moments. Those early lessons shaped not only her strong work ethic, but also the confidence and independence that later fueled her adventurous approach to life.

She graduated from Natchitoches High School and attended Northwestern State College. Before beginning her career in banking, Adrene worked for the U.S. Forest Service and at L.H. Johnson Wholesale. It was at L.H. Johnson that she met her future husband, James McKnight. Together, they built a life grounded in hard work, shared laughter, and a steady appreciation for making the most of each day. Adrene went on to enjoy a successful 35-year career in the banking industry, rising to the role of Vice President, followed by an equally successful 29-year run at being retired, a season she embraced with enthusiasm that never faded.

Adrene was an accomplished seamstress who sewed all her own clothes as well as every outfit her daughters wore, including ball gowns, prom dresses, and suits. She also relished cooking for her family, and although she never knew how many friends her children might invite to dinner, there was always enough food to welcome everyone at the table. It was in her garden, however, that Adrene found her greatest sense of peace and renewal. Created almost entirely from friendship flowers grown from seeds and cuttings shared by others, it reflected the way she lived her life. Just as she nurtured her family and the many people she befriended, she lovingly tended each plant until it flourished and revealed its full potential.

When she was not working, sewing, cooking, gardening, or taking care of her husband and seven children, she filled her spare time by giving back to the church and community she dearly loved. She was a member of The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Catholic Daughters, Service League of Natchitoches, and St. Denis Garden Club.

Adrene’s Catholic faith was the quiet foundation of her life. It sustained her through seasons of great joy and profound heartbreak, offering her strength, comfort, and an unshakable sense of hope. In prayer and trust in God, she found the grace to endure loss and to continue forward with courage, love, and generosity of spirit. She passed that faith on to her children by the way she lived each day.

No doubt now that Adrene has gained her wings, she is serving as guardian angel to her surviving children: Mary Adrene Burback (Larry) of Seattle, WA, Lillian Kay Platt (Shep) of Baton Rouge, Patricia (Tish) McKnight of Natchitoches, James Hart McKnight, Jr. (Cecilia) of Natchitoches, Anna Lea Payne (Andy) of Many, and Sarah Jean Barthelemy (Bill) of Loudon, TN; her 20 grandchildren: Jessica Madrigal (Tony), Rachel Norman (Andrew), Joshua Platt, Jaimee Platt, Katie Hebert (John), John Kyzar (Leah), Chris Kyzar (Nycol), Dustin McKnight (Coree), Brandon McKnight, Kyndall Harrell (Keith), Amber McKnight, Megan McKnight, Andrea Payne, Drew Payne (Natalie), Amanda Fredieu (Tyler), Austin Payne (Nicole), Corinne Cooney (Chris), Callie Barthelemy, Dana Curry (William), and Michael Barthelemy (Amanda); her siblings: Ann McClanahan, Linda Dowden, Mary Crayon, Dannie Methvin, Donnie Methvin, Ronnie Methvin, Mike Methvin, and Pat Methvin; her 29 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and the many friends whose lives she enriched.

Answering her knock at heaven’s door with joy and exuberance were those who went before her: her husband James Hart McKnight, her son William Methvin McKnight, her parents Clotile & Roscoe Methvin, and her siblings Mildred Marquess and Richard, William, Robert, and Kenneth Methvin.

The family wishes to express love and heartfelt thanks to Adrene’s sister-in-law, Vicki Methvin, whose lifelong friendship and quiet counsel made her an essential thread in the fabric of Adrene’s life. A trusted confidant to Adrene and a steady, extraordinary presence to her children, Vicki’s love and loyalty were gifts beyond measure. They are also deeply grateful to Natchitoches Community Care and Hospice of Natchitoches for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity they lovingly extended to Adrene during her final days.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 4, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, with a rosary at 7:30 pm. Services will be held Monday, January 5, at 1:00 pm at The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with Father Irion St. Romain, Father Louis Sklar, and Deacon John Whitehead officiating, followed by burial at Memory Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, John Kyzar, Chris Kyzar, Dustin McKnight, Brandon McKnight, Drew Payne, Austin Payne, and Joshua Platt. Honorary pallbearers are her brothers, Dannie, Donnie, Ronnie, and Pat Methvin and dear friend, Gary DeBlieux.

Those who wish to honor Adrene’s memory may do so by donating to The William McKnight Award, St. Mary’s High School Athletic Department, 1101 East 5th Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457; The Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 145 Church Street, Natchitoches, LA 71457; or to a cause of the donor’s choosing.

Luther W. Lott, Jr.

Luther “Buddy” Lott was born on June 6, 1959, and passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

Buddy lived in Natchitoches his entire life. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1977, and in 2011 he was inducted into the SMH Hall of Fame for his continued support of his Alma Mater. Buddy attended Northwestern State University and was a decades long time supporter of Demon Athletics and the NSU Demons Unlimited Foundation, providing support for all 14 men’s and women’s sports teams. In 2017 Buddy and his family established the Luther W. Lott, Sr., Memorial Scholarship, a perpetual four-year scholarship offered through the NSU Foundation. He was named to the Purple Line, a distinguished group of NSU alumni and supporters, in 2019. Buddy joined his father in the family business, Lott Oil Company, when he was still a teenager, and he learned the business from the ground up. He grew with the business as it continued to expand throughout Louisiana, eventually becoming president of the business, leading the company to the success it has reached today. In addition to running a company of over 500 employees, Buddy was a committed leader in the oil marketers industry, including serving on numerous state and national councils and boards. Buddy was so proud to welcome both of his children, Michael and Camille, to join him in the company in the past several years. Michael and Camille will continue to carry on the legacy Buddy has established at Lott Oil.

Buddy enjoyed spending time fishing in Natchitoches and hunting with dear friends and family members in West Texas. He also graciously hosted large family events at the camp in Natchitoches.

A recent highlight of Buddy’s life was becoming a grandfather. He found himself saying “Yes” to many more things when they were for Emery. Buddy was looking forward to becoming a grandfather for second time in May with the birth of Camille and Brandon’s son.

Buddy was preceded in death by his father Luther Lott, Sr., his mother Betty Self, his sister Martha Chapman, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Chris and George Mourad.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kim Mourad Lott, and their son Michael and wife Kelsy and granddaughter Emery, and daughter Camille Lott Donahue and husband Brandon, all of Natchitoches. Buddy is also survived by his stepmother Gwen Lott and her children Harry Hyams, David Hyams, and Katy Lyons. He is also survived by his Mourad family including Kalani Merrill, Renee Stewart, Kip and Jenny Mourad, and Kathy and Winky Newer and all their special kids and grandkids. Buddy was loved and will be remembered by so many friends and extended family members as well as loyal employees.

Buddy was an organ donor, and his death will allow others to live. In accordance to his wishes, Buddy was cremated. A celebration of Buddy’s wonderful life will be held Friday, January 2nd, at Riverside Reserve in Natchitoches from 2:00-6:00 P. M. Serving as Buddy’s honorary pall bearers will be Mark Massia, Steve Crews, Steve Rachal, Kip Mourad, Winky Newer, Gary Moreland, John Ackle, and the Krewe of ‘77.
