Michael Sganga, DPM, Shares Expert Insight on Jayson Tatum’s Injury in Channel 7 Interview

Dr. Michael Sganga, a foot and ankle specialist at Orthopedics New England, isn’t part of the Celtics’ medical team—but he’s treated plenty of athletes with injuries similar to Jayson Tatum’s. And he says this one looks particularly challenging.

“A lot of my athletes undergo a procedure called the PARS repair, which is similar to what Aaron Rodgers had,” Dr. Sganga explains. “I’ve been performing it for years. It typically involves a smaller incision, a shorter recovery time, and a quicker return to play.”

Minimally invasive surgery for all sorts of foot pain is available and can correct big problems with small incisions. Revision of complex deformity is always a difficult undertaking. Very rewarding having patients return to day I can run faster than ever and my foot feels “amazing”. Original work was closing base wedge and Hammertoe 2/3 correction. Revision 6 months ago with 1st mp fusion, calc autograft, 2nd met head excision, 3rd weil.
