MetroWest Mediation In the News: Making the Case for Housing Mediation

We’re excited to share that MetroWest Mediation received a grant from the Sincere Foundation! We’d like to thank Sincere Foundation for recognizing our work to keep community members housed by working out agreements between landlords and tenants to prevent evictions. With this generous grant, Sincere Foundation directly supports our mission and impact in the community.

Sincere Foundation has awarded $250,000 in new grants to twenty organizations that address basic needs in Massachusetts communities. With this most recent round of funding, the Foundation reaches a milestone of $1 million awarded to 56 organizations in its three years of operation. We’re honored to be recognized. Sincere Foundation is made possible by the support of Boston-based technology company Sincere Corporation and its family of brands.

Conflict is natural. Constructive conversations are intentional. Join our training to discover practical skills to create bridges where there once were barriers.

Our 30-hour virtual mediation training is designed to train individuals from a variety of backgrounds who want to become effective mediators in a variety of settings. The training meets the training requirements from the Massachusetts Trial Courts. Participants take the training to apply new skills to their current jobs, launch careers in mediation or gain the experience to mediate in the courts with MetroWest Mediation.

Dates: October 20, 22, 24, 27 & 29
Hours: 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (EST)
Location: The entire training will be held virtually on Zoom
Cost: $875

Course approved for 30 PDPs for Massachusetts Educators

When one of our clients learned their rent was increasing by $800 a month, they were overwhelmed and unsure how they’d afford to move.

Thanks to our incredible Housing team, we helped guide them through the RAFT (Residential Assistance for Families in Transition) application and facilitated a conversation with their new landlord to coordinate timing and payments.

With RAFT support, the family was able to move into a new home with their first month’s rent, last month’s rent, and moving costs fully covered.

"Less Arguing, More Hi-Fives" wasn’t just the name of our workshop — it was the goal!

We had the opportunity to work with over 150 YMCA Summer Camp counselors to dig into what productive conflict can look like at camp. Together, we explored how to shift perspectives on conflict, move from positions to shared interests, and build skills for having productive conversations — all through the lens of real challenges camp counselors face. These counselors left ready for a summer full of teamwork, communication, and more hi-fives!

After a serious injury kept them out of work, one of our clients found themselves falling behind on rent and feeling overwhelmed.

Our Housing team stepped in to mediate with the landlord, helping both sides reach a fair and timely solution. Together, they created a payment plan that worked for everyone: reasonable monthly payments for the tenant, and a path forward for the landlord to recover the back rent.

Li Morrison, Court Mediation & Conciliation Director, and Bob O'Connor, MetroWest Volunteer, held an insightful " Good Neighbor Conflict Resolution Workshop" at Seabed Ways Community Center. They talked about how to have respectful and productive conversations when challenges with neighbors arise. Always a joy to be working in our community!

Last week we led a refresher training with our Peer Mediators at John J. Ahern Middle School in Foxborough. The Peer Mediators shared success stories from their first months as mediators - it's great to see their growth and impact in the school already!

Become a skilled mediator through MetroWest Mediation Services' 30-hour virtual mediation training!
