A1 vs A2 Milk — What’s the Difference (and Why It Matters for Your Skin)?
Most supermarket milk contains A1 casein, a protein that breaks down into a compound called BCM-7 during digestion.
👉 BCM-7 can irritate the gut lining, slow digestion, and trigger bloating, inflammation, and even skin flare-ups in sensitive people.
A2 milk, on the other hand, has a slightly different protein structure (proline instead of histidine at one spot in the chain).
That tiny difference means no BCM-7 is released, making it much gentler on digestion — especially if you have a weak gut or inflamed skin.
💡 Ayurvedic view:
A2 milk is closer to the original, sattvic milk described in ancient texts — nourishing, grounding, and easier to digest when your Agni (digestive fire) is balanced.
A1 milk acts more tamasic — heavy, dull, and clogging when digestion is weak.
🩵 Takeaway:
If dairy gives you gas, bloating, or acne — try switching to A2 milk or A2 ghee from traditional cow breeds.
You might discover it’s not dairy itself that’s the problem — it’s the type of dairy and the state of your digestion.
✨ Pro tip: Always drink milk warm, never cold, and spice it with turmeric, cardamom, or cinnamon to make it lighter.
