Memorial Day: More Than a Weekend
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the weekend. The camping trips, the barbecues, the cold drinks and warm weather—those are the blessings of peace and freedom. And those blessings exist because of sacrifice.
But to be honest, Memorial Day is not just another day off.
It’s not about honoring those who are serving or have served. That’s what Veterans Day and Armed Forces Day are for.
Memorial Day is different. It’s sacred.
It’s about the men and women who gave their lives in defense of this Country. It’s about the ones who never came home. It’s for the families who carry their loss every single day—not just one weekend in May.
This day is for the 18-year-old who didn’t make it past their first deployment. The parent who left behind children who now only have photos and folded flags. The quiet names etched in stone, remembered in silence.
We owe them more than a passing mention. We owe them a moment—of silence, stillness, of reflection, of gratitude.
So yes, fire up the grill. Laugh with family. Enjoy the freedom they gave you.
But don’t forget those brave souls who paid for it.
Because Memorial Day isn’t about how we celebrate.
It’s about why we remember.
