Police1 regularly features poems written by officers. Today’s comes from Chief Ramon D. Gonzalez, a Marine Corps veteran with 19 years on the job and now chief of the La Joya (Texas) Police Department.

His poem is a reflection on the weight officers carry quietly — the calls that stay with you, the wear you don’t notice until it’s already taken a toll, and the way helping everyone else can make you forget to take care of yourself.

If these words hit home, you’re not alone.

It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Officer Marc Brock of the Vivian Police Department, Louisiana on Friday, November 14th, 2025.

On the evening of Friday, November 14th, Officer Marc Brock was serving a search warrant at a residence. When Officer Marc Brock got to the front door of the suspects house, the suspect opened fire through the door and Officer Marc Brock was shot in the line of duty. Officer Marc Brock was transported to a local area hospital, where the medical staff did everything they could, but Officer Marc Brock succumbed to the injuries sustained in the line of duty. Please keep the family of Officer Marc Brock, blood and blue, and the communities in which he served in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace Officer Marc Brock, We Have the Watch.
