Dr. Laurie Whorton

Dr. Laurie Whorton Pediatric Physical Therapist Whorton Pediatric Therapy provides expert pediatric physical therapy services for infants in the comfort and privacy of your home.

Our therapists help your child improve strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility to achieve new gross motor skills and allow your child to safely participate in her environment. Working directly with you, we will evaluate your child's needs and develop a plan of care to help your child attain new skills and meet your developmental goals. We believe that all parents should feel empowered to help their child succeed. With this in mind, our services not only focus on delivering excellent individualized care, but also ensuring that parents feel comfortable understanding the goals and techniques of therapy and carrying out a home program. Physical therapy services are carried out in each child's natural environment. Laurie has been a pediatric physical therapist for 28 years, obtaining her doctorate in PT in 2017. She has had a specific interest in treating babies with torticollis (tight muscle in the neck), flat head syndrome and the developmental delay that can occur with both diagnoses. Laurie recently attended an intensive torticollis class and has a mission of preventing flat heads as well as the developmental delay from this treatable, reversible diagnosis.

One mom didn’t think tummy time mattered… until she gave it a real shot.
Within months, her baby was crawling early, pulling to stand, and never needed a helmet. 💛

It’s not just floor time, it’s the foundation for strength, movement, and confidence.

Comment “TUMMY TIME” if you’re ready to start strong.

Think it’s too late to avoid the helmet? It’s not.

Even older babies can make amazing progress through play, positioning, and gentle strengthening.
It’s never too late to build symmetry, strength, and confidence. 💛

Comment “HOPE” if you’re worried it’s too late we’ll help you take the first step.

Just make them do it” is one of the most common tummy time tips I hear and it’s also one of the worst.

Babies don’t learn through tears, they learn through comfort, connection, and consistency.

Tummy time should build confidence, not resistance. 💛

When I realized parents weren’t being told the full story about helmets, everything changed.
Prevention doesn’t have to be expensive it starts with early action, tummy time, and awareness. 💛

Comment “EARLY” if you’re struggling with when or how to start tummy time.

Babies don’t hate tummy time, they hate being uncomfortable.

A few small changes can turn tears into progress:
💛 Chest-to-chest for comfort
💛 Lap lounge for support
💛 Boost and play for confidence

Once parents understand how positioning and strengthening work, everything changes.

Tummy time isn’t just about movement, it’s about shaping growth, strength, and development from the very beginning.

One mindset shift can change everything about tummy time:
Your calm is your baby’s comfort.
When you approach it with connection not pressure they respond differently.
Try this: Take a breath, smile, and talk softly before starting.
They’ll feel your calm and mirror it. 💛

Comment “CALM” if you’re ready to reset your tummy time mindset.

The worst advice isn’t always “get a helmet.”
It’s “don’t bother, it’s just cosmetic.”
By the time that advice is proven wrong, it’s often too late for easy fixes.

Comment “EARLY” if you’re struggling with when to take action. 💛

Most parents think tummy time needs to be long, structured sessions.

The truth?
5 minutes here and there throughout the day adds up to the strength your baby needs to hit milestones confidently.

You’re not behind, you just need consistency. 💛

Does your baby cry the second you try tummy time?
Try these 3 tricks:
1️⃣ Chest-to-chest for comfort
2️⃣ Lap lounge for support
3️⃣ Boost and play for confidence
Start where your baby is, not where you think they should be. 💛

Comment “CALM” if you’re ready to make tummy time a win.

Most parents don’t realize how powerful positioning and strengthening can be.
Until they try it and see their baby’s head shape change right before their eyes.
Movement matters. Early action works.

If your baby hates tummy time, it might not be the position, it might be the pressure.

Babies feel what you feel.
When you stay calm and confident, they follow your lead.

Tummy time doesn’t have to be stressful, it can be one of your most connected moments. 💛
