It's a good day to be a good day!!!!
All of my functional testings (genetics, MRT, and stool testing) initital visit, and follow ups are approved through Step Up For Students allowing parents and alternative way to help their children thrive by knowing their child's very own genetic make up! Does your child possibly have food sensitivities triggering their behaviors/outburst? Seeking out the Mediator Release Test (MRT) to assist your Childs autism and adhd symptoms by also help fix leaky gut, which powers the gut brain axis!!!
I am so excited and BLESSED for offering children this opportunity!!!
A simple cheek swab from 3X4 genetics can tell you so many things about you and your child's main nutritional needs.
Did you know a child with the MTHFR and PEMT has an increased need for choline, folate, B12 etc???
Today I am highlighting the PEMT gene.
The PEMT (phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase) gene plays a crucial role in choline metabolism by converting phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the liver. PC is essential for brain function, neurotransmitter production (acetylcholine), cell membrane integrity, and methylation pathways. Variants in PEMT can impact choline availability, methylation capacity, and neurodevelopment, which may influence conditions like ADHD and autism.
PEMT, ADHD, and Autism: Key Connections
Choline Deficiency & Neurodevelopment
Choline is critical for fetal brain development, synaptic plasticity, and memory formation.
PEMT SNPs (such as rs7946 and rs12325817) can reduce choline synthesis, increasing the risk of cognitive impairments, attention deficits, and social difficulties.
Acetylcholine & Dopamine Balance
Acetylcholine (derived from choline) influences dopamine signaling, which is dysregulated in ADHD.
PEMT variants reducing choline production may contribute to dopaminergic imbalance, impulsivity, and executive function deficits.
Methylation & Detoxification
PEMT is involved in one-carbon metabolism, which supports methylation (via SAMe).
Poor methylation can affect neurotransmitter regulation, detoxification, and inflammation, which are all key concerns in autism and ADHD.
Gut-Brain Axis & Inflammation
PEMT influences lipid metabolism and the composition of cell membranes, including those in the gut.
Altered gut health and systemic inflammation are frequently seen in autism and ADHD, and choline plays a role in maintaining intestinal barrier integrity.
Functional Nutrition Considerations for PEMT Variants
Increase Choline Intake: Eggs, liver, salmon, beef, and cruciferous vegetables are rich in choline.
Support Methylation: Ensure adequate intake of B12, folate (5-MTHF), betaine (TMG), and magnesium.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Help with membrane integrity and brain function.
Reduce Inflammatory Load: Avoid processed foods and support the gut with prebiotics, probiotics, and polyphenols.
Phosphatidylcholine Supplementation: May benefit individuals with low choline synthesis due to PEMT mutations.
I am so excited to offer this to children !!!
