Today Helping Hand of Otoe County, also known as Otoe County Respite and Companion, is happy to announce that our trained volunteers are ready to resume services to homebound seniors 60 and older, and/or handicapped adults. These services are provided at no cost.
The most requested service in Otoe County is transportation to medical appointments, both in Otoe County and to Lincoln or Omaha. Our volunteers are also able to offer respite services to caregivers to permit them to leave the home to take time for themselves maintain friendships, run errands, and other personal business. Respite provides relief from the stress and physical demands of full-time care for a loved one and helps minimize caregiver burnout. Other services may be possible based on the abilities and interests of the clients and our volunteers.
Tim Lockwood, the chairman of Helping Hands board said, “Covid made it impossible for our volunteers to safely serve their clients. We are excited to resume our services to our current clients as well seeking out new clients and volunteers to expand our contributions to the community. If you or someone you know would like to receive services or be a volunteer please call one of our two coordinators and we will help you with the very simple application need to receive services or begin volunteer training.”
