Dear Family and Friends,
As our nation, Wisconsin and local communities deal with the coronavirus pandemic, we want to provide you with an update on how it has impacted Oak Grove Assisted Care and the steps we’re taking to address it.
Oak Grove has and will continue to monitor staff and residents for possible exposures to and/or symptoms of COVID-19 daily. Prior to each shift, staff are required to wash their hands, take their temperature, and answer a series of questions to ensure they are not exhibiting any known COVID-19 symptoms. Employees also wear a face mask when entering and while in the building; and wear any other PPE recommended by the CDC and state and local health departments (as necessary). Any employees who develops symptoms during a shift are immediately sent home. At that point, they are directed to quarantine at home. If a staff person reports respiratory symptoms, fever and/ or any COVID-19 related symptoms they are asked to stay home, get tested for COVID-19 and remain home until test results have been obtained. Residents also receive a Covid-19 screen and a full daily along with a full set of vitals.
We were informed Saturday morning, one of Oak Grove’s residents has tested positive for COVID-19. This resident may have come in contact with other residents and staff during the asymptomatic period of the illness prior to developing symptoms. Due to this we are taking the required added precautions to maintain the health and safety of our residents and staff; and have immediately implemented contact tracing.
We will be following the guidance on outbreak testing from the Bureau of Assisted Living, CDC, and Wisconsin Department of Health Services. This will include, at the minimum, weekly testing of residents and staff until we are 28 days without a positive case. We have started testing residents and staff in our facility today and will continue to do so until further notice.
Because we are considered to be in an outbreak status, we will not be having in person visits (outdoor or indoor) until further notice. This is certainly frustrating when wanting to see loved ones, but we want to do everything in our power to keep our residents healthy. We continue to encourage family members to communicate regularly through FaceTime or Skype calls, phone calls, and emails. For more information on scheduling virtual visitation, please contact a member of our office at 608-565-3990.
Oak Grove appreciates your understanding as we continue to do all we can to maintain the health and safety of our residents and staff. At this time, our focus is on ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and staff as we are following proper infection control and emergency preparedness. We are communicating all updates to our residents, resident family members and employees through a multitude of internal communication channels. We will be providing on-going updates via our page for families and the greater community.
We continue to offer every assurance to our residents, resident families and staff that Oak Grove will be following all recommendations and will act in the best interests of our entire facility. Please know that we have followed, and will continue to do so, all guidance set forth for privacy, patient care, employee safety, and efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 as provided by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Centers of Disease Control (CDC), and Bureau of Assisted Living (BAL). These guidelines can be found here https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/assisted-living.htm under Infection Prevention.
We will continue to provide you with periodic updates with as much information as we can on our efforts to combat COVID-19. On behalf of Oak Grove Assisted Care, I want to thank each of you for your continued patience and prayers. It means a great deal to us.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Schuch
OGAC Director
