Ellie Fund

Ellie Fund Supporting Patients. Funding Care. Providing Hope. Easing the stress of everyday life through essential support services for breast cancer patients.

The Ellie Fund’s Healing Together Patient and Family Care Program (Healing Together Program) was established to provide for the immediate needs of breast cancer patients and family members. All services are available free of charge and accessible to those most needing assistance. About 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime (source: www.BreastCancer.org). Despite advanc

es in treatment options, early detection and prevention, there are approximately 5,890 (source: www.cancer.org) new cases of breast cancer in Massachusetts each year, and even more women living with breast cancer for years. A breast cancer diagnosis means physical, emotional and financial stress, not only on the patient but the entire family. The Ellie Fund’s staff interviewed oncology social workers and breast cancer patients to fully understand what support they needed during breast cancer treatment to maintain some sense of normalcy in their homes. Based on these discussions, the Ellie Fund created the Healing Together Program in 2005, providing critical support services such as grocery cards, prepared/delivered meals, transportation to medical appointments, childcare, and light housekeeping. The Ellie Fund was founded in 1995 by Jeff and Eliot Popkin to honor their mother Eleanor “Ellie” Popkin’s courageous fight against breast cancer and the giving spirit for which she was known.

Out in the Community. Rooted in Purpose!

June was a month of connection, celebration, and powerful conversations—and Ellie Fund was honored to be in the room for it all.

From uplifting honorees at the Women of Achievement event to standing with leaders at the Health Equity Compact gathering, we showed up with one goal: to champion equity, elevate women, and expand access to care for breast cancer patients across Massachusetts.

At the Women of Achievement celebration, we were inspired by incredible women breaking barriers and changing the game in their fields. Their stories fuel our mission and remind us what’s possible when women rise—and bring others with them. So excited to celebrate Petrina Martin from and Allison Picott from

At the Health Equity Compact, our team stood alongside changemakers, including Senate President Karen Spilka and of , to address systemic barriers and reimagine a more just healthcare future for all.

Every event. Every handshake. Every conversation—was a step toward a future where compassion and care are not a privilege, but a right.

We’re proud to bring our mission beyond the walls and into the heart of the community. Because healing happens when we move together.

As Pride Month comes to a close, we at Ellie Fund are reflecting on the strength, dignity, and vibrant voices within the LGBTQ+ breast cancer community.

Each quote shared in this carousel represents more than words—they are truths lived daily by those breaking down barriers, facing stigma with courage, and advocating for care that sees and affirms all of who they are.

Because no one should have to choose between their identity and their dignity.
Because healing is most powerful when we feel safe, seen, and supported.
Because pride is not just a month—it’s a movement.

To every LGBTQ+ survivor, caregiver, advocate, and ally: we see you. We celebrate you. And we will continue to stand with you. Today and always.

is grateful for the opportunity to speak with . Our Director of Community Engagement Nekia Clark and Digital Consultant Lindsey Briggs joined the Spark FM team to talk all things —our powerful symposium happening TODAY Monday, June 23rd from 2–6PM.

They shared the many free, life-changing services Ellie Fund provides to support Massachusetts breast cancer patients during chemotherapy—from transportation to meals, childcare, and more.
Both Nekia and Lindsey know this journey intimately, having lost their mothers to breast cancer. Their mission is personal—and their message is clear:
Advocate for yourself. Support your loved ones. No one fights alone.

Ellie Fund is here to support patients, fund care, and provide hope.

Join us. Share the word.

The Breast Cancer Equity Symposium is bringing together an incredible lineup of thought leaders, advocates, medical experts, and change makers who are all committed to one mission: advancing equity in breast cancer care and outcomes for every community.

From public health pioneers to nutritionists, survivor-entrepreneurs to city officials, each speaker brings a unique lens and lived experience to the table—grounded in healing, access, representation, and resilience.

Together, they’ll share stories, strategies, and science to help dismantle disparities, uplift communities, and inspire a more just and inclusive future in breast health.

This is more than a symposium. It’s a movement. Come hear from the voices leading the way.

Progress in the Room. Purpose in the Air. Power moving forward.
Yesterday, Ellie Fund was honored to be in the room for the Health Equity Compact gathering in Boston—a vital moment in the fight for health justice across Massachusetts.
Our Executive Director Meredith Mendelson, Director of Community Engagement Nekia Clark, and Director of Development Danna Remen were proud to stand alongside leaders, advocates, and changemakers committed to eliminating health disparities and advancing equity in real, measurable ways.
As an organization that provides free, life-changing support services to breast cancer patients, we understand how deeply racial and economic inequities impact access to care.

Being part of these conversations isn’t just important—it’s necessary. Because we know:

Black and Brown communities deserve better.
Equity is not optional—it’s urgent.
And real change begins with who’s at the table.
Thank you to the Health Equity Compact team and Micheal Curry of for leading with vision and action. Ellie Fund is proud to lend our voice, our story, and our mission to this movement.
