The Ellie Fund’s Healing Together Patient and Family Care Program (Healing Together Program) was established to provide for the immediate needs of breast cancer patients and family members. All services are available free of charge and accessible to those most needing assistance. About 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime (source: www.BreastCancer.org). Despite advances in treatment options, early detection and prevention, there are approximately 5,890 (source: www.cancer.org) new cases of breast cancer in Massachusetts each year, and even more women living with breast cancer for years. A breast cancer diagnosis means physical, emotional and financial stress, not only on the patient but the entire family. The Ellie Fund’s staff interviewed oncology social workers and breast cancer patients to fully understand what support they needed during breast cancer treatment to maintain some sense of normalcy in their homes. Based on these discussions, the Ellie Fund created the Healing Together Program in 2005, providing critical support services such as grocery cards, prepared/delivered meals, transportation to medical appointments, childcare, and light housekeeping. The Ellie Fund was founded in 1995 by Jeff and Eliot Popkin to honor their mother Eleanor “Ellie” Popkin’s courageous fight against breast cancer and the giving spirit for which she was known.

WOMEN WORKING WONDERS IN SUPPORT OF ELLIE FUND’S MISSION

Ellie Fund is extremely grateful to the Women Working Wonders Fund (WWWF ), a permanently endowed fund of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, for awarding Ellie Fund a grant to further extend our services in the Lowell area.

Thanks to WWWF’s generous contribution to our local work, Ellie Fund was able to deliver vital services including healthy delivered meals and transportation services to approximately 100 patients in Greater Lowell, allowing patients to treat their disease, without having to choose between basic needs and cancer care.

We even witnessed an unforgettable fashion show led by Ellie Fund patient models,** where taking a walk down the runway translated into real-life impact. (Thank you Vicky & Cheryl for capturing the joy!)

And we’re not slowing down — this October, Ellie Fund will host a breast cancer awareness event in Lowell in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Stay tuned for details! This grant doesn’t just fund services; it keeps our mission top of mind so we can keep showing up for patients and families every single day.

What a BIG media day for Ellie Fund on Tuesday August 19th! We were thrilled to join Sue & Kendra on the Magic 106.7 Morning Show to share the heart behind our mission — supporting breast cancer patients and their families when they need it most.

Next week August 28th, Ellie Fund hosts the Lexington screening of the featuring and . All proceeds will go to Ellie Fund.

And the media appearances didn’t stop there! Our Executive Director also joined Mary Lou Andre on the Living Well TV Show on Needham Cable News, amplifying our patients’ voices and shining a spotlight on the work Ellie Fund does every single day.
