Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed that justice, dignity, and compassion must extend into every space, especially healthcare.

At Ellie Fund, we honor his legacy by working every day to break down health inequities and ensure that breast cancer patients receive the practical, emotional, and financial support they deserve
systemic barriers to treatment and in turn address health inequities. We also hear from our patients time and time again it was the sense of community and feelings of support Ellie Fund provided that resonated with them long term.

No one should face breast cancer alone. Everyone deserves a community and support system. Ellie Fund is here to do that. We are proud to be guided by Dr. King’s belief, “At the heart of all that civilization has meant and developed is ‘community’ - the mutually cooperative and voluntary venture of man to assume a semblance of responsibility for his brother.”

Today, we honor the birthday of Eleanor “Ellie” Popkin—the woman whose love and strength inspired the founding of the Ellie Fund.

Thirty years ago, her sons created the Ellie Fund in her memory. What began as a personal tribute has become a lifeline for thousands of Massachusetts breast cancer patients.

Ellie’s legacy lives on in every patient served, every family supported, and every act of compassion made possible through this community. On her birthday, we are especially grateful for the enduring impact of her life and the generosity it continues to inspire.

Ellie Fund joined the Rubin Drive’s “Lights to Fight”Breast Cancer Festival of Lights display in Norton — a beautiful reminder that light, community, and connection matter, especially during the holidays. Our team was proud to show up for families navigating breast cancer when life feels darkest.
