August is National Wellness Month 🧘 – the perfect time to build healthy habits! Throughout this month, we’ll share wellness tips each week. Here’s Tip #1: Create a Morning Ritual. How we start the day sets the tone. Try adding one positive action to your morning: stretch for 5 minutes, drink a glass of water before coffee, or list 3 things you’re thankful for.

Consistency is key; small daily habits add up to big changes in mental and physical health. By the end of August, you could have a solid self-care routine in place! What’s one thing you want to incorporate into your mornings? Comment below – we can cheer each other on. 🌅

Celebrating 8 Years of Healing! 🎉 Today marks 8 years since A Healing Place, Complete Counseling Care opened its doors, and also 8 years of service from our founder, Lisa Anderson (happy work anniversary, Lisa!).

Eight years ago, Lisa started this practice with a vision to provide compassionate, holistic counseling to those in need. Since then, we’ve grown into two offices, a fantastic team of therapists, and have had the honor of guiding many clients on their healing journeys.

In 8 years, we’ve learned: healing is possible with the right support, self-care is essential, and our community is amazingly resilient. To our clients and supporters – thank you for trusting us. To our team – thank you for your dedication. Here’s to many more years of hope and growth ahead!

International Day of Friendship 🙌 Friendship and mental health go hand-in-hand. Having even one or two close friends you can trust acts like a safety net during tough times. Today, on this global celebration of friendship, take a moment to appreciate those who support you. Send a note or text to a friend who’s been there for you – let them know they matter. 💌

Therapist tip: If you’re feeling lonely or isolated, consider joining a local group or class (hobby groups, support groups, etc.).

Building new connections as an adult is hard, but shared activities can help – and remember, 20% of Americans feel isolated in their free time, so you’re not alone in that feeling. Reaching out is courageous! Tag a friend you’re grateful for in the comments and spread the love. 🤗

Monday Motivation: Let’s tackle the week with courage. 💪 “Never be ashamed of your story – it will inspire others.” This quote speaks to the power of vulnerability. Many people feel stigma or shame about mental health struggles, but every time someone speaks up or seeks help, it lights the way for someone else.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma – you are far from alone, and there’s no shame in it. In fact, your journey might encourage a friend or family member to get help too. This week, remember that your struggles and triumphs can serve a purpose. Keep going – and know that by healing yourself, you might be inspiring others to do the same. 💙

International Self-Care Day! 🧡 Today is a global reminder that self-care is a 24/7, 365 practice. Self-care is not selfish – it’s the foundation of health and wellness. This can mean setting boundaries, getting enough sleep, saying “no” when you need to, or yes – going to therapy.

In honor of , do one kind thing for yourself: take a long bath, start that book you’ve been meaning to read, or simply pause and breathe deeply. 🌺

Mental health care is not one-size-fits-all. In our latest blog, Lisa Anderson discusses why culturally competent therapy matters – especially for BIPOC communities during Minority Mental Health Month. 🌎💚

She shares how culture impacts healing, why people of color face extra hurdles (did you know only ~36% of Hispanic and 39% of Black adults with poor mental health receive care?), and tips to find support that respects who you are. This is a powerful read for anyone passionate about equal access to mental health.

Read the full article on our blog now – and let’s continue breaking stigma and building bridges.

July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month , a time dedicated to recognizing the mental health needs and challenges of underrepresented communities. As a therapist and the owner of a practice serving diverse clients, I want to shed light on why culturally competent care is so important in menta

Mindfulness Monday: Let’s start the week with a simple grounding exercise. 🌱 5-4-3-2-1

Technique: Pause and notice 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel (touch), 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. This classic technique can pull you out of anxious thoughts and back to the present moment by engaging your senses. It’s like hitting a mental “reset” button when stress strikes. Next time you feel overwhelmed, give this a try – perhaps step outside and do 5-4-3-2-1 with nature around you. 🌳🕊️

Therapist insight: Grounding exercises are used in CBT to manage anxiety and panic, and they’re great because you can do them anywhere, anytime. Save this post as a reminder for later!

Self-Care Saturday 🤗 Today, let’s focus on social self-care. July is Social Wellness Month, highlighting how nurturing relationships improves our well-being. Humans are wired for connection – having supportive friends or family helps us handle stress better and even benefits our physical health (did you know loneliness can impact blood pressure and cholesterol?).

So, your challenge: Reach out to someone who brings you joy. Call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, or make plans to grab coffee/tea with a family member. 💬💕

Building those connections is self-care. It might feel hard to initiate if you’re down, but a little social interaction can uplift your mood. Who will you connect with this weekend? (Tag them and show some love!)

Therapy Spotlight: EMDR 👀 Many people have heard of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) but aren’t quite sure what it is. EMDR is a specialized therapy for healing trauma and distressing memories. It uses guided eye movements to help the brain re-process traumatic events, so they no longer feel so intense or triggering. Our trained therapists use EMDR to help clients work through PTSD, anxiety, and even issues like panic attacks or phobias. The amazing part? It’s non-invasive and has 8 structured phases that have helped countless people find relief. If you’ve been struggling with trauma or painful memories, EMDR could be a game-changer. 💫

Customized and Attentive Counseling Care

In 2016 I was working in a large mental health agency, I felt trapped and constrained by the polices and procedures that I had to follow pertaining to client care. I wanted to give my clients more individualized attention to help them move towards recovery. I realized this wouldn’t be possible in my current situation. I made the decision to leave my employer to open my own agency so I could provide services with a personal touch.

In August, 2017 A Healing Place was opened with the goal to provide excellent service and treatment. My goal is to provide indivualized attention and customized treatment plans for each client. I am responsive and available to my clients when they need advice or feedback, it is important to me that my clients know I care about them and their recovery. My goal is to help every client move from just surviving in their lives to thriving in their lives.
