For years, cannabis consumers have been trained to shop almost entirely by THC percentage.
But cannabis is more complex than a number on a package.
Aroma. Freshness. Cultivation. Curing. Organoleptics. Sensory experience. These things matter — and I believe they deserve a much bigger place in the future of cannabis culture.
At Ohio CannaExpo, I’ll be giving a keynote presentation exploring why “the nose knows,” why consumers spend hundreds or even thousands searching for the “right” product, and why the industry may need to move beyond potency marketing toward better consumer education and sensory literacy.
Cannabis was never meant to be reduced to a barcode and a potency percentage.

The Appalachian Mountains originated from the collision of ancient tectonic plates over hundreds of millions of years, particularly during the formation of the supercontinent Pangea. This intense orogeny raised a vast mountain chain that has since eroded into the current range. Southeast Ohio, including Athens County, lies on the western edge of the Appalachian Plateau, a region shaped by the same tectonic forces. The plateau’s rolling hills are remnants of ancient uplift, carved by erosion, leaving a landscape of valleys and ridges linked to the greater Appalachian system.

When I count my blessings too often, I forget about my students. this is extremely shortsighted. By God. Do I ever appreciate the energy associated with wanting to learn and having your whole life in front of you. I am proud of all my students, but especially of the good ones that are not only excelling academically, but also in the process of collecting a ton of valuable experience that they will hopefully harness for many years to come.
Thank you for providing the foundation for what will be the best “legal”homegrow I’ve ever done.
