Health care isn’t just about caring for patients — it’s about keeping Kansas communities economically strong. Kansas hospitals and the health care sector support nearly 338,000 jobs and almost $24 billion in labor income across our state. Strong hospitals = strong local economies. As we work to grow Kansas, investing in a stable, sustainable health care system is essential.

From Our Imaging Suite to Screens Across Kansas!
We’re incredibly proud to share that Wilson Medical Center was selected by the Kansas Hospital Association as one of just eight hospitals featured in the 2026 Virtual Health Care Career Day — reaching more than 5,000 students statewide.
Our Director of Radiology, Shawnna Shaffer, gave students an inside look at life in medical imaging and what it truly means to serve patients through technology, precision, and heart. Their feedback says it all — they loved hearing from real professionals in real health care settings.
Investing in the next generation of rural health care leaders matters deeply to us, and we’re always eager to support students exploring careers in medicine.
And a special shoutout to Travis White from Eagle's Eye Aerial Imaging for the outstanding videography support!
We are incredibly proud to share that Dr. McKellar will address attendees at the Keith Hersh Scholars Awards Banquet and Ceremony on March 10th at 6:30 p.m.
When someone raised here chooses to return and give back, it speaks volumes. Dr. McKellar’s story reminds us that sometimes the most powerful journeys are the ones that bring you right back home.
Our 2026 Keith Hersh Guest speaker is Dr. Miranda McKellar. Dr. Miranda McKellar is a 2009 graduate of Neodesha High School. During her high school years, working as an office assistant for Dr. Bert Chronister after school, her love of medicine grew. Consequently, she spent the next 11 years in pursuit to become a physician.
Dr. McKellar’s education includes: A Bachelors of Science degree in biology with an emphasis in genetics from the University of Kansas and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She also completed her family medicine residency at Smoky Hill Family Medicine Residency program in Salina.
After graduating from residency, Dr. McKellar practiced full scope family medicine including surgical obstetrics in North West Kansas until she got the opportunity to finally return to her home community to serve patients at Wilson Medical Center in 2023. Currently, she serves as Chief of Staff and Treasurer of the hospital Board of Directors.
Dr. McKellar spends every spare moment she can with her family including husband Ian, and sons Sawyer and Silas. In the summer, you’ll find the family spending every spare minute at Table Rock Lake in their 1994 Cobalt 22T aptly named “Doctor’s Orders.” When they’re not boating, the family enjoys camping, hobby farming, and generally anything outdoors.
The Keith Hersh Scholars Awards Banquet and Ceremony is March 10th at 6:30. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Porters and Neodesha High School. You can also email vjones@usd461.com to reserve a ticket, payment must be collected by Friday, February 27th.

Dr. Coates is back at WMC and offering surgical services to our community. You can get the care you need right here and focus on healing, not traveling.
We’re honored to continue caring for Wilson and Montgomery County residents while working collaboratively with Labette Health and our SEK Health partners across the region.
We are thrilled to welcome Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center as the newest member of the Southeast Kansas Health cooperative. We are working together to strengthen local care, expand resources, and make it easier for families to receive high-quality healthcare close to home!

Cupid showed up at Wilson Medical Center… and he was in third grade. 💘
Our incredible community partners, the Neodesha third graders, hand-wrote a Valentine for every single hospital employee. Yes — every. single. one.
They didn’t stop there. These tiny tastemakers also served as our official judges for the Department Valentine Box Contest. And in true 2026 fashion, they crowned the ultimate winner: the legendary 6-7 Box. Apparently, if it’s “6-7,” it’s automatically elite. Trend confirmed. Status secured.
We’re so grateful for young hearts investing in their hometown hospital.
Neodesha, your future is bright… and very on trend. 💌

Future You Says Thanks.
Not for the hustle. Not for the carpool schedule. Not for the perfectly packed lunches.
For this.
For taking 20 minutes to schedule your 3D mammogram.
