Review from Alyssa E!
My wellness coach has been great. I started doing once-weekly sessions with her over the phone, and it's been really helpful to me, in terms of confidence and getting the encouragement I need to keep going. She helped me recognize that, if I want to succeed in living a healthy life and one worth living, I need to use my strengths of intellect, adventure, and creativity, instead of seeing those as liabilities.
One of the deterrents of exercise for me has always been how soul-crushingly boring it can be. Lift weights. Put down weights. Walk on a treadmill for 45 minutes. Whenever I've tried, it's been torture, and I've always just assumed that if I really want to get in shape, I'm just going to have to endure doing these torturous things multiple times per week. Forever.
With her help, she was able to open my eyes and see that I can improve my health by doing exercises that I actually enjoy; she took away a lot of the obstacles I assumed were there. …My weight and general weakness has been a big fat (pardon the term) "I can't" for the majority of my life, and I'm finally starting to feel like I can do the things I want to. That's incredible to me.
I've also been eating a lot better the last few months- again, in part because she's reminded me that my strengths lie in my smarts and my creativity, and I've had a lot of success in letting my curiosity guide what I make instead of trying to follow a regimented meal plan. I think my chaotic soul would rebel instantly with those kind of strict guidelines! …I feel like it's really worked for me. I'm not on any specific diet, and I'm not restricting anything- just trying to make healthier choices, and that feels way more positive…
I would highly, HIGHLY recommend having a wellness coach…sometimes, especially when you're starting out and getting out of your comfort zone, you just need someone who can tell you that you're doing a good job. And sometimes you can't see all the possibilities that are there. Healthy food can be really delicious. Exercise can be fun. Life can be happy, sometimes. And that's been a big and very Important change for me this last year.
