Coping skills are valuable. But they’re not the same as regulation.
Coping helps you manage a feeling in the moment. Regulation is when your nervous system actually shifts… when your body moves out of activation and into something that feels more like safety.
The goal isn’t just to get through the hard moment. It’s to help your nervous system learn that it can come back down.
This week: after you use a coping strategy, check in with your body. Do you feel genuinely settled, or just distracted? There’s no wrong answer, just information. 💚

We have been sold the idea that rest has to be earned. That you should be tired before you’re allowed to stop. That slowing down means falling behind.
Your nervous system didn’t get that memo.
Rest is how your body processes stress. It’s how your brain consolidates memory and regulates emotion. It’s how your nervous system shifts out of survival mode and into something that actually feels like living.
You don’t have to earn rest. You were born needing it.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m saying it plainly: rest is not laziness. It’s one of the most radical acts of self-care your nervous system can receive.
