Here are important safety considerations to keep in mind when treating congestion:

👉 Patients who get sleepy from antihistamines should not drive an automobile or operate dangerous equipment after taking them.

👉 Decongestants increase pulse rate and elevate blood pressure and should be avoided by those with high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, glaucoma, or difficulty urinating.

👉 Pregnant patients should consult their obstetricians before taking any medicine.

👉 Cortisone-like drugs (corticosteroids) are powerful decongestants administered as nasal sprays to minimize the risk of serious side effects. Patients using steroid nasal sprays should follow instructions carefully and consult a physician immediately if they develop nasal bleeding, crusting, pain, or vision changes.

Cold air, indoor heat, and low humidity can leave your nasal passages dry, irritated, and uncomfortable. Here are simple tips to help keep your nose hydrated this winter:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water helps keep your mucous membranes moisturized.

🌬️ Use a Humidifier
A clean, well-maintained humidifier adds moisture back into the air and prevents nasal passages from drying out.

🌿 Try Saline Nasal Sprays
Saline sprays hydrate the nose, thin mucus, and reduce crusting without causing dryness.

🧴 Use Nasal Gels or Oils
Nasal gels create a protective moisture barrier inside the nose to prevent cracking and irritation.

🧣 Protect Your Nose Outdoors
Covering your nose with a scarf warms and humidifies the air before you breathe it in, reducing dryness.
