Dear Colleagues,

We need your help — and we need it now.

NJATOD has launched a Change.org petition calling on Governor Sherrill's office and the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs to issue immediate relief for Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) before a May 16 regulatory deadline that threatens to disrupt methadone treatment for thousands of New Jersey patients.

WHAT'S AT STAKE

On February 17, 2026, the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs issued an advisory confirming that the COVID-19 telemedicine waivers for Schedule II controlled dangerous substance prescribing have expired. As a result, all Schedule II prescribing — including methadone for opioid use disorder is now subject to a new requirement: an in-person visit with a prescriber every 90 days.

This rule, as currently interpreted, does not account for how OTPs actually operate. Our patients already come to the clinic in person daily or near-daily. They are not telehealth-only patients. Applying a blanket 90-day prescriber visit rule to this population creates unworkable burdens and real risks:
Stable patients would face mandatory quarterly in-person prescriber visits on top of their existing clinic schedule.
Patients in nursing homes, residential programs, and correctional facilities have no clear pathway to comply.
Disruptions to the prescribing cycle could interrupt dosing — with potentially devastating consequences for individuals in recovery.
WHY YOUR SIGNATURE MATTERS

NJATOD is actively pursuing an OTP-specific waiver through DCA and engaging Governor Sherrill's office through every available channel. But public pressure matters. A strong signature count sends a clear message that this issue has broad community support: from providers, patients, families, advocates, and anyone who cares about access to life-saving addiction treatment in New Jersey.

WHAT WE'RE ASKING OF YOU
Sign the petition now: https://c.org/pNq2fxp2dP
Share it widely — with colleagues, patients (where appropriate), families, community partners, and on social media.
Encourage your organization to share through your own networks and communications.
Every signature counts. Every share expands our reach. We are stronger together, and our patients are counting on us.

Thank you for standing with NJATOD and the OTP community.

With urgency and appreciation,

Protect MOUD patients in NJ: Urgent relief from the DCA Schedule II telemedicine rule

Sometimes, the smallest gesture can go the furthest.
Now through April 25, during Feeding Our Families, you can support local food banks right at checkout at Stop & Shop. Just round your total up to the nearest dollar.
That spare change adds up quickly, helping provide meals for families across the Tri-State area when support is needed most.
With rising costs and fewer seasonal donations, food banks are feeling the strain. This is a simple, fast way to be part of the solution with no extra shopping required.
Every cent stays local! Stores in Monmouth and Ocean Counties directly benefit Fulfill.

⚠️ Health Insurance Alert ⚠️
Nearly 70,000 New Jerseyans have lost health coverage since January due to rising premiums after federal subsidies expired.

Costs are forcing many families to drop insurance or switch to lower-cost plans with higher out-of-pocket expenses.

This puts more people at risk of skipping preventive care and facing costly emergencies.
