According to the International Confederation of Midwives, the world is facing a shortage of 1 million midwives. Women, babies, and families across the globe are suffering from a lack of skilled, compassionate care — care that midwives can provide, and care that midwives should be providing. We must do better for the families of the world. The world needs more midwives.

Over the past three years, I have had an incredible student in my practice. To me, midwifery is holy work. It is sacred work — work you must feel deeply called to do. You have to hold a genuine love for caring for and serving others in your heart.

Bailey has the heart, soul, and hands of a midwife.

And as of this month, the world is now only short 999,999 midwives 🙌🏽💛 Bailey is officially a California Licensed Midwife and will be joining my practice.

There are so many beautiful benefits to having a two-midwife practice. Our families will be even more supported, cared for, and held through their journeys. I cannot fully put into words what it means to have a midwifery partner with whom I can share all the beautiful, silly, and hard moments this work brings.

With their first birth it was just the two of them and myself. That first birth is such an intimate experience between a husband and wife, their family just starting to grow. With this second pregnancy they saw it as a beautiful invention to include their first born. He came to most of our appointments, helping us measure and listen to sister’s heartbeat. During the labor he came in and out of the birth room checking on his mama. When it came time to welcome his sister into the world he curled into his dads lap and watched in wonder as baby came out. When his mama asked if he wanted to touch his sister he immediately went to hold her hand. Homebirth at it’s sweetest.

SNOW ❄️

I LOVE a good snow day! I am originally from Breckenridge, Colorado. I have snow and winter in my bones. I know how to handle it and drive in it and when an all wheel or a 4 wheel is needed.

This morning, I had a baby and mama to check on down a road that the plows had not gotten to yet. The dad called and offered to come pick me up in his 4 wheel truck. We definitely NEEDED a 4 wheel drive to get to their house. We saw a handful of stranded cars on our way, cars that had no business being on the road. If you don’t have a vehicle for the snow, stay home!

After seeing the insanity of the unplowed roads and cars sliding everywhere I cancelled my clinic day. I won’t risk any pregnant mamas and babies getting hurt.

If you are one of our mamas in dates, don’t worry! My car is dug out, my driveway is clear and my birth bags are packed and ready….. also, Bailey has a 4 wheel truck so we are all good 👊🏽💛

Happy New Year.

This beautiful baby girl made her way into the world and into her moms arms just after 6 am this morning making her THE FIRST * baby born in Nevada County for 2026 🙌🏽🩷

The most perfect way to start the year.

* I verified this with both hospitals in the county and with all the other midwifery practices

2025 was a big and beautiful year.

We served sixty-two families, witnessing the most holy and sacred moments as they brought new life into the world.

Thank you to each of our families. The trust you gave us to care for you we hold close to our hearts. We feel honored and privileged to do this work and will carry all of the lessons and knowledge and wisdom that you taught us into this next year.

3:30am birth team smiles as a new Mama, a new Dad, and their sweet new baby are cozy and tucked into bed in the next room.

I am blessed to work alongside some incredible women. Labor and Birth are big and who your birth team is matters.

Making sure sis is doing well 🩷 No pretend stethoscopes for this big brother. He knew exactly where mommy kept her Littmann and how to use it. I have a feeling he will be protecting her heart his whole life.
