HeartMind Healing Arts

HeartMind Healing Arts We are fascinated by Classical Chinese Medicine and the mind/body/spirit connection. We use dynamic What is HeartMind?

HeartMind is derived from the Chinese word Xin (pronounced “shin”). Often translated simply as heart, Xin actually encompasses a greater understanding of the heart as the place in our body where spirit and mind reside. True wisdom, and access to higher consciousness come to us through Xin, the HeartMind. Heartmind Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a bodywork practice developed in Japan over centuries, steeped i

n Eastern understandings of life energy flow in Nature and in human nature. In the HeartMind style of Shiatsu we focus our bodywork practice through conscious cultivation of HeartMind understanding in the practitioner. We learn to slow down and listen inwardly to the wisdom of the heart, and to assist our clients to do the same. As HeartMind Shiatsu practitioners, we learn to integrate the thinking mind with the feeling mind, giving us the power we need to heal emotional trauma, quiet incessant mental chatter, allow true inner peace to grow and to become clear channels of universal unconditional love. Body, Mind & Spirit

HeartMind is the quintessential joining of body, mind and spirit in the heart center. The belly connects us to the Earth, our home planet and our deep primordial nature as Earth beings. Our head connects us to the heavens, our place in the galaxies of stars, and our transcendent eternal nature as Spirit Beings. The heart center unites the two, the heavens and the earth, the head and the belly, and grants us the central place within our bodies to access wisdom and realize our fullest potential nature as Human Beings. Modern research is revealing more and more the amazing plexus of wisdom and intelligence that emanates from the heart. Hence, the term HeartMind expresses this powerful unification of thinking and feeling. HeartMind Qigong

At the heart of HeartMind Shiatsu is the practice of Qigong, life energy cultivation. The key for deep and effective qigong practice is the clearing of misguided thinking, inaccurate beliefs, and maladaptive patterns of behavior and conditioning from the HeartMind. This allows for the mystical commingling of mind and spirit in the body, and releases ones true inner light and connection to the stream of wellness.

Clearer and clearer to me arises the important concept of healthy interpersonal bridges. These are to be established with our important relations with those dear to us. For far too many of the persons I have known and worked with the early childhood interpersonal connections were either less than healthy, or downright toxic. It is my honor to support people to heal these past conditions that left such a deep and lasting imprint, and to help them to build and trust healthy interpersonal relational bridges once more. This is no small work, and each of us may reflect deeply upon the nature of our interpersonal connections with others and practice at the deepest level we are capable of to keep those relations clear and healthy. Of particular help in this endeavor can arise the awareness of the vertical and horizontal axis in life. Our vertical is our ability to align with the above and below, up through the crown to the stars in the galaxies above, and down through the root to the core of the Earth. Depending on your sensitivity, you might call this the “divine” or “eternal” axis. This vertical axis is ultimately the personal responsibility of each and everyone of us. The interpersonal connections we have with others then can be seen to reside in the horizontal, or “Earthly” plane. In this plane, we extend our love, care, and empathy to those around us, near and far. A healthy horizontal bridge can be built and maintained when the vertical is sound. Like the pillars on either side of a gated entry, they must be plum and upright so that the gate can naturally swing open and closed to allow for easy and uneventful entry and exit. Or for guarding that flow of commerce with the world. When someone takes advantage of the gateway, the interaction becomes toxic, and repair is required. Of course, in a healthy relationship, sometimes our vertical sensibility is compromised and we lean on our partner. This can go both ways. When we feel weak, our partner can lend us strength for a time. Yet we ultimately take back our power and reclaim our vertical in a healthy way, with gratitude for the support. If you find yourself leaning on someone whose vertical is not secure, or that others are leaning on you when you do not feel stable, then we enter an extremely slippery slope. My hope is that you may see many applications for these concepts on your life, and that you may take pains to build and maintain your vertical and extend healthy horizontal bridges in all your interpersonal relations.

What if you could turn off your self-judgment and inner critic and just sit down with a musical instrument and start playing — joyously, exuberantly, and without inhibition…

… every note perfect in the moment, allowing your soul to sing its own song and express its greatest longings?

Finding a Higher Purpose With Improvisational Native American-Style Flute: Shift Your Mind From Self-Judgment to a Creative Flow State for Deep Soul Expression

In a free online event, music therapist Christine Stevens shared that when we express ourselves freely and creatively, there are no missteps…

… only discoveries that make us more awake, more inventive, and more resilient in taking on the unknown and unexpected. "Playing improvisationally," Christine says, "liberates your imagination and enables you to find what’s really true for you, peeling away layers of self-limitation — and maybe even uncovering your higher purpose."

During this event, Christine will guide you through the five notes of the pentatonic scale, giving you an opportunity to feel the emotional content of each note and the energy traveling up your spine as you journey up and down the scale.

She’ll also provide you with an animal spirit prompt — the medicine of the Eagle — to sing or play with. It symbolizes the unrestricted aspect of the natural world, and the power of freedom in literally “winging it.”

This isn’t just about music! You may be surprised to know how creating and playing improvisationally can open a doorway into new states of consciousness that can transform how you live your entire life.

Finding a Higher Purpose With Improvisational Native American-Style Flute: Shift Your Mind From Self-Judgment to a Creative Flow State for Deep Soul Expression

In this one-hour online musical event, you’ll:

• Discover an “earthing” practice with sound — to ground you into nature and then uplift you
• Practice improvisation with voice or flute based on the 5-note scale, and discover each note’s purpose and energetic gift
• Be infused by a healing improvisation with Christine’s branch flute in the key of E
• Experience the inspiration and cultural significance of combining drum, rattle and flute — the three sounds of creation in the Mexican tradition
• Work with the medicine of the Eagle whose wings remind us of “winging it” and the connection of flute and birds, for a sense of freedom that may alter the way you live your life

Join Christine in an inspiring free online event in which she’ll take you on an improvisational music journey with the Native American-style flute (or by simply using your voice).

Christine says that this flute is one of the easiest and most fulfilling instruments to learn, because it’s crafted in the five notes of the pentatonic scale…

… and no matter how you combine them, it’s impossible to make a mistake. There are no wrong notes!

Our Story

When I began my wellness journey, I was in my early 20s. My father had just had his second heart attack, and it was a real wake-up call for me! I realized if I didn’t change some of my own ways, I’m might soon be walking down the same path as my father. Perhaps you can relate? I think many people come to the wellness practices after a serious health crisis, either their own, or that of someone close to them!

So after my dad’s heart attack I realized that I had a real need to walk a more stress-free relief. And that led me into the work that would come to be my career for life. I’m a stress relief and wellness expert, and I now have 30 years of practice and thousands of hours of training to get to the place where I am today, and feel the gratification of helping others on their wellness journey.

The wellness journey to me is like a hike along the NaPali coast of Kauai. It’s a long hike, that isn’t all easy. And... it’s filled with breathtaking vistas that take your breath, and fill your heart with joy. And best of all, at the end of the long hike, is Kalalau Stream, the most generous, gentle, cool water in the world. It washes away all the struggle and strife in your life. A good wellness journey is like that!

Now, the particular journey of HeartMind Wellness that I guide people on leads them into the experiences and awareness needed to tap into the stream of wellness. And it starts with realizing that there is no stream of illness. There is only a stream of wellness. Illness happens when you are disconnected from the stream of wellness. And getting back in that wellness stream is the journey of the HeartMind way.
