Hi friends! It’s been a few months so thought I’d give you a little life update🤗

I’ve been doing radiation M-F for the last several weeks. Went into it with a super positive attitude thinking it was going to be a breeze. It hasn’t been lol but I’m feeling better now that I’m at the end of that road. I’ve completed 25/33 treatments 🙌🏻. Ya girl is burnt to a crisp, itchy, sore, tired and CRANKY 🫠. I’ve been super grateful for friends and family driving me a couple of times a week. Honestly one of the toughest parts of it all is the driving everyday.

I’m still doing chemo injections once every 3 weeks and I only have 2 left! Minimal side effects with those (praise the lord🙌🏻). My LAST CHEMO EVER is scheduled for June 5th!🥹

And lastly, I’m having a really hard time getting down with this “pixie” cut. My family and friends have been super encouraging and sweet about it but I just don’t recognize the girl in the mirror staring back at me quite yet. I’ll get there. Reminding myself as often as I can that these scars and body changes are all a symbol of strength.

To all of the people who’ve battled cancer or are currently battening. Y’ALL ARE TOUGH💪🏻

✨Just a quick little update🩷

Recovery from my mastectomy is going so well! Pain is very minimal at this point🙂

I have drains in on both sides STILL and I’m salty about it…ask my family, I complain daily😅 I’m going to have to name them if they stick around much longer.

I’ve had more appointments lately than I have combined in the last couple of months. Post-Op checks, expander fills, oncology appointment, radiation oncology consultation on Friday and starting my Phesgo injections in a couple of weeks, which is my targeted chemotherapy.
These have all been great, lots of hugs and happy dances that I achieved PCR (pathological complete response) from chemotherapy🥹🥳

Things are rolling and im so thankful for that! I’m exhausted and so ready to get my life back🩷 sooo soo close🙌🏻

Last official update because I wasn’t expecting it to be this good🥹

My surgeon just called with my pathology results and I had a complete response to chemo!! Which means they found no remaining cancer in any of my lymph nodes or breast tissue!😭🙌🏻

I’M THE HAPPIEST CANCER FREE GIRL!

01/24/2024

I just want to thank everyone so much for the sweet messages, texts, and calls🩷

Surgery went really well. They took 5 lymph nodes including the one with confirmed cancer initially and they all came back benign🙏🏻

I’ll get my official pathology results in about a week but as of right now I’M CANCER FREE!😭🙌🏻

PS. I came home after surgery and everything is going so well. My husband has been taking such good care of me🫶🏻

Also I can’t say this enough, I’ve had the best experience at KU from day one. The surgical staff were incredible and beyond kind. I would recommend this place time and time again!

Tomorrow is the big day. I’ll be going to surgery around 7:15 for a double mastectomy.🙌🏻

I’m feeling all the feels.

Praying god will be with my surgeons to guide them through my case to achieve the best possible outcome and that I’ll leave that operating room a cancer free girlie💖

I’ve had a rough couple of days emotionally. I had an MRI yesterday and I’ve been a wreck ever since. I’ve responded to chemo but it’s really unclear how much until they go in surgically. ANYWAY… I’m tired of dwelling on it. I was just on Snapchat and you know when you open the app and get the view of yourself that’s super unflattering? Well I got a view of my bald ass head with Chase’s coffee mug and lost it💀😂. I’m embracing all the things and choosing laughter over tears tonight.

💕UPDATE

It’s been a minute! Taking a step back from social media has been SO good for me🙌🏻

I’ll fill you in on what’s been going on and what’s to come. First off, this journey has been a wild ride…mainly mentally. Again, I’m positive most of the time but when I spiral, I SPIRAL. The fear of recurrence is loud at times. Especially when I have set backs. Then I google, and read and it does me no good. Positive talks with my family and friends help so much. Keeping up on sermons and really staying on top of my faith is also a mental game changer. I know that god has a purpose and a plan for me💖

Today I saw my oncologist and got great news. My labs look awesome and my genetic testing came back good🙌🏻
I’m all set to get my final chemo for this round tomorrow!

After chemo tomorrow I’ll start doing pre-op appointments for my double mastectomy scheduled on January 9th at KU. I’ll heal and then start daily radiation treatments in Joplin (minus weekends) for 5 weeks. Then after that I’ll get 6 more rounds of targeted chemo. So less side effects, thank goodness. My hair will grow back and I should be less sick overall. Lastly, I’ll get reconstructive surgery around August.

I can see the light at the end of this long tunnel🥹💪🏻

One last friendly reminder to PLEASE come pick your shirts up 😅. Still have 9 people left. Feel free to zoom in and see if the name is yours as I’m not able to tag everyone. Or let someone know they still have a shirt needing to be picked up. Thanks!

Carly’s labs came back bad again this week. So no chemo again. They are talking maybe doing chemo on the 22nd if her labs are good. Pray for her mental and emotional health as well as her physical health. The ups and downs are just a part of the journey.

Todays devo hit close to home. God is control 🩷.

✨A little update.

I was supposed to have chemo last Thursday and it was delayed due to low blood counts😔
Anyone who’s ever had to do chemo before knows how big of a bummer this is. The finish line is within reach and then there’s unexpected delays and it SUCKS. But, it’s obviously for my safety and I understand that.

Also last Sunday on our way back from Arkansas I wasn’t feeling right. Crazy brain fog and felt super tired. This went on the entire week😵‍💫 I’ve been fortunate to not have severe symptoms with treatments. I’ve continued to work almost full time and go to events, etc. Well It’s all finally caught up with me (my oncologist had to make that pretty clear… I need to be doing less and resting more.) So I’ve been doing just that. Working a little from home and resting ALOT.

With that being said, staying at home doesn’t come easy. I miss my coworkers and being social. I miss a lot of things and it’s only been a little over a week. So for my mental health I’m going to take a break from all things social media and work on being the best version of myself for my family🤍

Let’s talk about last night🥹

I can’t come close to expressing my gratitude in a Facebook post but I’m going to try.

Seeing our community/family/friends come together to show your support and love for my entire family was truly incredible. We can’t thank everyone enough for your donations and generosity. My family and I still have a long road ahead while I finish up chemo, have surgery, and start radiation and because of all of you last night we won’t be burdened financially.
I can’t wait to be on the other side of this, helping and supporting others the way you have for us.
We love and appreciate you all more than you know.

-Carly and family 💖💪🏻
