✏️ Ever wonder what pencil grip your kiddo should be using?
We’re aiming for the dynamic tripod grasp—and it’s not just about neat handwriting. This grip builds the strength, control, and endurance kids need to write with confidence!
✨ Here’s what it looks like:
✅ Thumb, index, and middle finger hold the pencil
✅ Pencil rests against the side of the middle finger
✅ Wrist is slightly extended and fingers do the work (not the whole arm!)
💡 Best part? You can build this skill through play! Try these at home:
🎨 Play-doh – roll it, pinch it, squish it to build hand muscles
🖍️ Short crayons or broken pencils – they naturally guide the right grip
🔧 Clothespins, tweezers, or tongs – fun tools to strengthen little fingers
🖼️ Coloring on a vertical surface – supports wrist stability and control
🧩 Dot-to-dots, mazes, tracing paths – boost precision and directionality
🐻 Animal walks (crab, bear, frog) – build shoulder stability and core strength, the foundation for fine motor control
The best part? Your child will just think they’re playing while you’re secretly supporting their future writing success—no worksheets required!
