Are you struggling with sleep...trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, nightmares? Sometimes relief can be as simple as a bedtime snack. Trauma survivors can lose touch with their hunger cues, depression can decrease appetite, and people may be restricting calories for various reasons. Low caloric intake can result in low blood glucose and cause distress to the body and brain, impairing a person's ability to get restful and restorative sleep. A small healthy snack before bed can provide some relief. Oatmeal, nuts, cottage cheese, and whole grain toast with almond butter are all good options.
