At The Avalon of New Albany, it’s about meeting each person where they are in the moment.

While activities and social engagement are important, we also recognize that every individual experiences moments differently. Sometimes a resident may become overstimulated, confused, or simply need a moment to pause, regroup, and feel safe again.

In those moments, we strive to meet them exactly where they are with grace and empathy. Sometimes it’s a comforting conversation, a familiar activity, or reconnecting them with something they love that helps bring peace and joy back into their day.

We are truly grateful to have a team that not only notices these moments, but responds with kindness, attentiveness, and genuine care. It’s the little things, the patience, the reassurance, the human connection, that can make the biggest difference, and we are honored to be part of that journey for each and every resident.

As we prepare for Memorial Day, we proudly placed flags in honor of each veteran in our community and created a Fallen Soldier Table as a tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives in service to our nation.

Meet Your Neighbor: Gene

Gene came from humble beginnings. His mother and father immigrated from Italy through an arranged marriage, building a life rooted in family, sacrifice, and determination.

That foundation helped shape a legend.

Gene became a two-time All-American at West Virginia University and went on to earn induction into three Halls of Fame:
• West Virginia University Hall of Fame
• State of West Virginia Hall of Fame
• Ohio Valley Athletic Association Hall of Fame

His accomplishments didn’t stop there:
• Sugar Bowl champion
• Division champion
• Played in the College All-Americans game against the Cleveland Browns where the College All-Americans shocked the football world with a win!

We had an absolutely wonderful time with the New Albany Mom’s Association this morning!

They brought crafts for the residents to enjoy, along with some special furry visitors, adorable little bunny rabbits.

The children brought so much joy and laughter to our residents, and we are already looking forward to having them back again soon!
