Does posture affect mood? Studies have shown that it can enhance confidence as well as mood. Try spreading your hands wide, putting your hands up in "victory" mode or hands on hips with legs apart. Hold that position and see how you feel.

During the winter months when it is less appealing to go out, home organizing tasks can fill some of your time. One tip home organizers use is to set a timer when working on daunting organizational tasks. Start with 5 minutes to reorganize your sock drawer or tidy the kitchen counter. Work up to more time for the whole dresser or closet. Minimize the overwhelm of going through items and paperwork with this simple technique. Short bursts of organizing can make it more manageable.

An Unfinished Project: Reflections on the Promises of Revolution at the Nation’s 250th
January 22, 2026, 6:00–8:00 PM
New Bedford Whaling Museum
Register in advance for this free program, which marks the opening of Forging Independence | Building a Nation, a new semi-permanent exhibition that recognizes the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.
The evening begins with welcome remarks from New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell, followed by a 30-minute screening of selected excerpts from Ken Burns’s The American Revolution, highlighting the many individuals whose beliefs, identities, and courage shaped the nation’s founding.
Then enjoy a panel discussion, exploring how the Revolution reshaped lives across the region and how ideas of nationhood, abolition, citizenship, and racial identity evolved in its aftermath—and continue to resonate today. Panelists include Naomi Slipp, Jan da Silva, and Donika Kelly, who will reflect on the historical, civic, and poetic dimensions of the semi-quincentennial.
Then end the night at a light reception in the Jacobs Family Gallery and an opportunity to explore the new exhibition. Copies of The Natural Order of Things will be available for purchase in the Museum Store, with a book signing to follow.

Remember that grief can take many forms and not occur only at the time of a loss. Anticipatory grief can happen when a loved one receives a medical diagnosis, such as cancer or Alzheimer's disease. Delayed grief can take place when feelings are set aside for a period of time. Grief is complex, and each person experiences it differently. Keep in mind it can have physical symptoms, from fatigue and restlessness to heart and stomach issues. This is why we encourage everyone to take care of themselves at all times, and especially when grieving.

Grief can be surprising. It can show up at any time. With a song, a flower, even a turn of phrase. Give yourself the grace to move through it. Acknowledge how grief shows up for you and do your best to remember, with hope in your heart.
