A revolutionary movement for BIPOC birth justice — Re-membering our ancestral rite, Re-claiming & restoring birth sovereignty, and building reciprocal community care.

nd standing with and supporting the pregnant women in our community through their most sacred journey: childbirth. We are the underground conductors on the underground railroad to new life, helping to close the disparity gap to give BIPOC and other mothers, fathers/partners (passengers), and families a safe, healthy, and thriving passage through pregnancy and childbirth to have and raise a healthy baby.

✊🏿 A Sacred Word from the Village

You may have seen the article in SouthCoast Today about Sacred Birthing Village and the $500K fellowship from Chicago Beyond.

But we know: only we can tell our story.

Because what we hold, what holds us, what we touch and what touches us must be shared with the same potency, joy, power, and restoration that we live every single day.

And while we’re grateful for the recognition, this is not a story about money.

This is a story about faith. About sacred obedience. About what happens when a love offering is finally returned to a people who’ve been holding the line with nothing but ancestral fire and divine conviction.

The truth is, our story cannot be reduced to a headline.

So, we’re telling it ourselves.
Raw. Real. Restorative.

This summer, we’re launching the SBV Blog, a living altar of testimony, sacred remembrance, and Black maternal restoration.

But until then… stay close.

We are walking through the fire of these times, genocides, collapse, grief and still, we remember we are the ones to rebirth and restore.

Not by headlines, but by holy rhythm.

A Sacred Path of Belonging, Becoming, and Being Held

There is a moment when a woman—carrying life within her—crosses a threshold.
Not just into motherhood, but into remembrance.
Into sacred vulnerability. Into possibility. Into her fullest self.

At Sacred Birthing Village, we call her our Little Sister—
not because she is small or less—but because she is entering
a sacred portal of becoming.
And as she does, we encircle her with the full web of the village.

To be a Little Sister is not to be served—it is to be seen.
It is to be honored in your wholeness.
To be accompanied with deep presence.
To be poured into with love that doesn’t measure worth in paperwork or appointments.

We don’t “match” SisterFriends to Little Sisters.
We gather around them.
We show up in layers. In rhythm. In care that shifts and breathes.
Meals. Massage. Prayer. Presence.
A ride to the doctor.
A ceremony under the stars.
A circle of hands after birth.
A voice on the phone when the tears won’t stop.
Laughter. Herbal steams. Healing touch.
Remembrance.

Little Sisters walk a reciprocity journey—
giving just as they receive.
Bringing their medicine.
Teaching us how to be with life.
How to listen.
How to pause.
How to protect the sacred.
Their birth is not just theirs—it is ours.
Their restoration is community restoration.

But not the polished version sold back to us in pink boxes.

We honor the sacred labor—seen and unseen.
The sacrifices. The ache. The joy. The becoming.

We see the ones who mother in spirit, in longing, in grief.
Those healing mother wounds.
Those navigating absence, estrangement, infertility, and pressure to perform love they never received.

Motherhood is not a product.
It is a practice.
A portal.
A power.

At Sacred Birthing Village, we don’t celebrate for a day and abandon mothers for the year.
We honor the whole journey.
The brokenness. The brilliance. The in-between.

Let us mother as God’s hands and feet.

🌿Today, on International Midwives Day, we rise in reverence.
For the wise village woman.
The medicine woman.
The keeper of the threshold between worlds.
The hands that have always caught life, anointed death, and held the mysteries of birth in the quiet power of tradition.

We give thanks for these hands—
Hands that were prepared long before they ever touched a womb or whispered a prayer.
Hands that carry the memory of those who midwifed freedom in fields, in forests, in kitchens and corners where no one else dared to go.

And today, as the founder of Sacred Birthing Village, I answer the ancient call.
I listen deeply as the ancestors knock.
For allowing my own birth as a traditional birth keeper, a ceremonialist, a village midwife in the making.

We offer a prayer that her hands be blessed—
That they be molded by the wisdom of those who came before.
That we may rise, fully and fiercely, into the sacred work our bloodline remembers.

We didn’t gather for a program.
We gathered to wake up—to be held in the sacred rhythm of our ancestors, the breath of our wombs, and the medicine of our people.

Every drumbeat. Every prayer. Every presence.
Medicine.

This is not a moment. It is a movement.
A practice.
A sanctuary.
A village.

And the invitation still stands:

How will you walk as the living prayer of our ancestors?
