MBPR stands for MOVEMENT BREATH POSTURE REST. It is our offering. Is it yoga?

Yes but also no. Yoga poses are part of each class but often deconstructed and/or reconstructed to serve a purpose for many different reasons.

These reasons might be to highlight aspects like motor control, agency, isometric contractions, hydraulics, skeletal pathos, symmetry/asymmetry, breathing for strength, ease, spinal support.

Yoga classes often aim to use the physical practice to create avenues for philosophies that encourage enlightenment, karmic freedoms, meditative awareness, and even devotional exercises.

While all of these aims are lively in theory, we find it extremely difficult to say we are not appropriating the culture, traditions and religion of Hinduism and of India.

We openly say this because it is important to announce our work as a community -albeit small- here at good company to take what we’ve learned and unlearn@and to clarify our directions. And where the evolution has come from.

MBPR classes are based with a study that goes into science and references the mechanics of 1. our bodies, 2. our relations in the world, and 3. was which we contribute to science but understanding it and resting it.

Maybe too heady for some folks. But we like it. We think it’s good stuff.

This year was profound.
We continue to thrive through enormous loss, incredible heartache, and the state of our world.

Good Company Collective is and will remain and important place and implementation in people’s live as it represents fairness, integrity and power.

Now that being a yoga studio is set aside we can practice the insights and processes of all who inspire us.

This year is reflective of a love that never dies, of the work that needs to be continued and of the thresholds we cross all alone together as one.

Let’s go 2026. Power to the people.

Giving Tuesday

From Vee:
My involvement with Good Yoga Co. began when I was around 15 or 16 years old, and looking back, it’s clear how deeply it shaped who I am today. Yoga, especially practicing and working closely with Juliet—opened my eyes to a side of New Bedford I never knew existed. Before Good Yoga Co., I didn’t realize there were spaces built on positivity, healing, and growth right in my own community. The studio quickly became an escape for me, a place where I could breathe, learn, and be surrounded by good energy. It showed me that New Bedford isn’t just the difficult parts I grew up seeing; there are corners filled with love, learning, and genuine connection.

Being part of Good Yoga Co. taught me responsibility and what it means to show up—not just for others, but for myself. I learned what community truly looks like and built a level of compassion that has carried into every part of my life. Juliet played a huge role in that. She guided me through some of the most important years of my adolescence and into early adulthood with patience, kindness, and trust. She offered me opportunities to expand my knowledge, take courses, and grow as both a student and teacher of yoga. More importantly, she gave me a space that felt safe, supportive, and affirming.

Good Yoga Co. has been more than just a job or a place to practice—it has been a foundation in my journey. It helped shape my confidence, my mindset, and the way I see my community and myself. The impact Juliet and the whole company have had on me will always stay with me, guiding me as I continue to grow.

From Juliet:

One of the youth, well, she’s not a youth anymore, that has been with good company before it was even good company is Nevaeh Greene. She’s a lot of what I think. New Bedford really is, tough but open, rich with past, and nimble with what’s to come. Personally, I’ve watched Vee fight many of hardship, create many avenues for herself to be seen, heard, and respected.
she most recently completed a prenatal yoga training and is developing programs like this for good company. I’m very proud of her.

From Emma

Hello, my name is Emma. I am a yoga instructor with Good Company Yoga, located in New Bedford. Me and my colleagues visit schools and youth programs to share our knowledge and bring a structured practice of yoga. There are a lot of benefits to yoga. We offer the space for children to gather themselves and take a breath. In a mindful and non-judgemental environment. While practicing in a group setting that can be comforting and motivating, offering a source of emotional support. For the more energetic, active yoga is a great option. Through restorative yoga, we inspire thoughts and ideas through age appropriate prompts. Many people I’ve taught have never done yoga before. This brings the opportunity for students to try something new.
I have been doing yoga for three years now. Teaching yoga is fun and I think it’s fun for the students too. There is much more to it than I originally thought. Yoga taught me to be confident in my own body. To be outspoken with my voice.

From Jaeda

good company is more than just a non-profit.
it is community, family, a creative center, and most importantly a home to many.
good company has been investing in the youth for years through restorative yoga practices in the community. hosting events such as art camps, training youth to become yoga teachers, giving youth opportunities to teach  at schools in the greater new bedford area, collaborate in with local resources and organizations such as mass hire and girls design is just a few of the great things good company is up to.
as for a personal testament on this non-profit, i began here in 2020 in the aftermath of covid-19 pandemic, as a 16 year old with a very shy, fly on the wall personality. i truly cannot accredit this organization enough for the confidence, lessons, and support that they have given me unconditionally. having been here for 5 going on 6 years, i have watched the sense community and sense of home foster gracefully within the youth. i was challenged, given many opportunities to be a leader, and most important seen and loved for being exactly who i am.
i have never been apart of an organization that meets people where they are at, and works them so interpersonally to challenge them with grace to build the confidence they need. now as i graduating university and entering the world, i have been able to fill my resume with skills i have been taught here. investing in this organization provides youth with opportunities to further their education in the world of yoga, art, leadership, mentorship, responsibility and more.
it will open so many doors for the youth to continue to create, self reflect, and invest/give back to new bedford to continue to forward the growth the city has had over the past few years.
investing in our youth is vital, our youth are the future. start investing in our youth by donating to good company!

From Johannah

My experience with good company over the past three years has been amazing. I’ve gotten to learn so many new things new poses and ways to relax my mind and ways to calm my anxiety.
This program has taught me to be more outspoken. Not only did I get to learn and teach, I got to meet wonderful people and make friends along the way.
I practice yoga because it teaches my mind to be calm and collected and it teaches others how to be calm and patient. Over the time we have gone from learning to practice to teaching and designing a class. We teach publicly at a program called girls design to 3rd - 5th grade girls in NB.I teach them to become calm and to learn to stretch and get better at the yoga poses. This matters because having a calm mine is better than having a clouded mine, which can cause stress. Being together and working on our stress together is important to our community.

From Leticia

I’ve been with good company since 2024 . I remember when I first started I was scared and nervous I was scared that I wasn’t gonna get along with anyone there but Juliet has so much patience for all of us she makes the work way more easier she works with you if you don’t understand she breaks it down for you to work better with the work and understand better it’s not just about what we do and about the yoga the way of working with the environment you can be yourself there you make friends no one makes fun of you everybody greets you with happiness and joy and working with groups helps us communicate with one another and it’s so nice and relaxing there . This has helped the kids we work with that we can be nice to one another work with one another and communicate and manage stress , which is so important these days it’s so good to be part of something that has such a positive and supportive community and impact on their life.
