Coastline Elderly Services Coastline is a nonprofit organization serving communities in the Greater New Bedford region.

Coastline’s mission is to be a trusted provider of resources and services that support self-determination and community well-being. Every day our goal is to help you or your loved one access programs such as Meals on Wheels, homemaking services, and personal care attendants that allow you to continue living at home, independently. When you call our Information & Referral Department, you will be asked a series of questions, and based on your answers our Intake Specialists will either refer you to a program at Coastline or to another community organization that can meet your needs. We encourage you to call Coastline and speak with our Intake Specialists. There are so many different programs offered by Coastline and other community organizations that our Intake Specialists are knowledgeable of, and they will act as your guide. There’s still time to give back while you shop!

If you’re stopping by Shaw’s in Dartmouth this month, look for the “Give Back Where It Counts” reusable bags. Each bag purchased sends $1 to Coastline Elderly Services, supporting older adults and caregivers in our community.

Those dollars help provide meals, transportation, and everyday supports that make it possible for people to remain independent at home. We’re grateful to Shaw’s for uplifting local nonprofits and to everyone who chooses to support their older neighbors.

In this month's Senior Scope, Jonathan Felix takes a surprising look at retirement. It isn't the end; he suggests, it's a reevaluation and, if desired, a new beginning.

Here's an excerpt:
Researchers studying people who remain mentally sharp into their 90s (dubbed “SuperAgers”) discovered two key factors: high levels of social connection and engagement in tasks requiring executive function: planning, problem-solving, and social complexity. The difference between typical aging and SuperAging isn’t genetics or luck. It’s the choice to remain engaged in work that matters. This doesn’t mean you can’t retire from your career, but it does mean you need to retire to something, not just from something.

Read more on page 5 of the January Senior Scope and check out the free wellness classes listed there, including Felix's Science of Well Being class on Sunday morning.

If you’ve been shopping at Shaw’s in Dartmouth lately, you may have seen the “Give Back Where It Counts” reusable bags near the checkout. Coastline Elderly Services is grateful to be one of the local organizations benefiting from this January partnership.

Each bag purchased sends $1 back to support older adults and caregivers in our community, helping with meals, transportation, and the everyday supports that make it possible for people to remain independent.

We’re thankful to Shaw’s for making space for local nonprofits, and to everyone who continues to support older neighbors in ways seen and unseen.
