Elephants are traditionally considered a symbol of good luck, wisdom, fertility, and protection. Wearing or placing the image of the elephant with its trunk raised in your home is thought to attract good fortune, as it showers its positive energy out of the trunk and into all surrounding beings and spaces. Elephants with their trunks down are thought to be accumulating positive energy and pushing through obstacles, and are particularly potent totems for those seeking fertility, wisdom, or strength.

The elephant is also associated with the root chakra, charging through blockages and offering energies of protection, love, loyalty, and quiet courage.

From the moment we are born we start learning about this world. This learning is not only cognitive, as many people falsely believe. We learn through our senses, through nonverbal communication, through people around us.
We learn about connection early on. We also learn about protection. And how much of our narrative is about connection vs. protection depends on if we have regulated and regulating people around us.
At birth, we are no longer connected from one body to another (no longer a part of your mother’s body), but connected nervous system to nervous system (which creates co-regulation.) In these very early interactions, we rely on our caregiver to bring a regulated nervous system to this connection. But what happens when there is none? When caregivers can’t attune to baby’s needs, when stressful experiences in babies aren’t recognized and soothed, the autonomic experience of persistent danger shapes the baby’s system from connection into protection.
