Ayurveda has known this for 5,000 years!
Winter is Vata season, cold, dry, light ❄️
During this time, our bodies naturally:
➡️Crave warmth and grounding
➡️Need more rest
➡️Require heavier, nourishing foods
➡️Move slower, conserve energy
This isn’t depression, this is nature 🌱
When patients come to me in January and February saying ‘I feel slower, I need more sleep, I’m craving comfort foods’... I don’t immediately think ‘seasonal depression.’
I think: Your body is doing exactly what Vata season asks of it!
The problem is that modern life often ignores seasonal rhythms.
We’re expected to produce at the same pace year-round.
But the body still operates on nature’s clock.
In my practice, I teach patients about Ayurveda and how we don’t fight the seasons. We flow with them.
Winter isn’t a problem to fix with medication.
It’s an invitation to honor your body’s wisdom. ☀️
