Most people don’t realize how much the toxins in our environment affect not just our bodies but also our brains.

From pesticides and plastics to everyday cleaning products and cosmetics, these chemicals disrupt the microbiome, trigger inflammation, and have been linked to rising rates of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism.

As a holistic psychiatrist, I’ve seen firsthand how reducing toxin exposure and healing the gut can lead to profound improvements in mood, cognition, and overall well-being.

Healing begins with awareness and small, consistent changes. Choose organic foods when possible, reduce plastics, and swap out chemical-heavy products for natural alternatives.

Your environment matters more than you think. Start today. What’s one small change you’ve made (or want to make) to reduce toxins in your daily life?

Your morning can either drain you before the day begins or set you up for healing, clarity, and resilience. Ayurveda reminds us that the first hours after waking are sacred, a time to align your body, mind, and spirit.

When we honor the body’s natural rhythms with calm, mindful practices, we support the nervous system, balance our hormones, and strengthen digestion. These small choices ripple through the rest of the day, shaping how we think, feel, and show up for ourselves and others.

Remember: it’s not about doing all the steps perfectly. It’s about creating a rhythm that helps you feel grounded and nourished.

What’s one small shift you could bring into your mornings this week to support your healing?

Why should this matter to you?

These practices from the past and present show the deep flaws in mainstream psychiatry, whether it’s endorsing forced sterilizations or the chemical imbalance theory, or supporting gender-affirming surgeries in youth without fully understanding the consequences.

In some cases, psychiatry has dehumanized and ignored the rights of patients, from lobotomies to electroshock therapy used to control women’s behavior.

Modern psychiatric practice of psych meds is branded as ‘scientific progress.’

But is it really progress when all metrics show worse outcomes despite skyrocketing use of psych meds across the life span?

Su***de rates, disability rates, prevalence rates; have all climbed up with increased use of psych meds. How much longer can the system ignore root cause models of mental illnesses?

It’s time to rethink mental health care.

Healing starts by addressing the root causes, not just masking symptoms or following outdated practices.

Let’s break free from the legacy of psychiatry and find better, more holistic solutions that truly serve people’s well-being.

What it really means is that we’ve forgotten who we truly are. We feel separate, isolated, untethered from the whole.

What is the mistake your intellect is making?

Ayurveda tells us: it’s the mistake of forgetting our true nature, forgetting that we are connected to the whole of Nature, that we are Nature, that we are Divine ✨

I call this the “Amnesia of the soul” or the shrouding of our soul.

This amnesia creates the sense of disconnection, making us feel lost, separate, and alone.

Every illness, crisis, or hardship is actually a soul initiation, a guide from within, inviting us to return to wholeness and rediscover our true self.

So if illness is forgetting who we are, then healing is remembering our true nature, our Divinity, and reconnecting with the whole 🙏

We all dislike inflammation. It’s uncomfortable, it disrupts our lives, and yet it is becoming more and more common.

Here’s what many don’t realize: chronic inflammation is at the root of so many conditions, not just arthritis, acne, or IBS, but also depression, anxiety, migraines, and other brain-related illnesses.

In Ayurveda and functional medicine, we understand inflammation as the body’s alarm system. When the root causes are not addressed, the alarm keeps ringing. Over time, this can show up as both physical and mental health struggles.

The good news is that inflammation is not a life sentence. By supporting your body with the right foods, lifestyle practices, and stress reduction, you can calm inflammation and restore balance.

The power to heal is within us. It begins with awareness and the choice to act.

How do you currently support your body in managing inflammation?

Did you know psychiatric diagnoses are not based on objective science?

In the 1970s, just nine psychiatrists created the DSM-III, a manual of labels with no biological evidence to support them. By 1980, it became the worldwide standard, shaping how we understand and treat mental health to this day.

Here’s the problem: these labels are still being used to prescribe medications that only treat symptoms, not the root causes. This is why so many people feel stuck, cycling through meds without ever finding real healing.

In my practice, I take a different approach. I help patients uncover and address the true drivers of their struggles, diet and lifestyle, trauma, and toxins. By working at the root level, the body and mind can finally restore balance.

It is time to rethink mental health care. Healing begins when we move beyond labels and start addressing what really matters.

If you’re ready to go deeper than symptom management, I invite you to reach out.

In mental health and psychiatry, there’s a lot of misinformation being spread.

It’s time we face the facts.

One of the biggest misconceptions I encounter in my practice is the idea that psychiatric medications are always the solution. The truth is that they don’t address the root causes of mental illness, and their long-term effects, especially on children, are still largely unknown.

When we look at mental health from a holistic perspective, considering diet, trauma, and toxins, we can find real, sustainable pathways to recovery. But as long as we keep ignoring these root causes, we’re stuck in a cycle of ineffective treatments.

Let’s challenge these outdated myths together and start building a system that truly supports mental wellness.

👉 Have any mental health myths you want busted? Leave them in the comments below, and let’s talk about it!

A Mayan proverb says, “when you make an enemy of the earth, you make an enemy of your own self (body).” We and nature are ONE.

As a mother and a holistic doctor, I am deeply aware of how important access to clean food, air, water, and nature is to sustain us, our children, and our future generations. 🌱

That’s why I’m proud to support the Farm to Fork event happening on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 11 AM to 3 PM at Rustic Manor 1848.

It’s a no-brainer for me to be part of this, and I hope you will too! Join us as we savor the season, support local farmers, and invest in a sustainable future.

So many of us have been taught outdated beliefs about mental health, and these myths are keeping us from real healing.

Here are 5 of the most common myths I hear, and the truth behind them:

1️⃣ Myth: Mental illness comes from a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Truth: Mental illness reflects a breakdown in the larger physiology of the whole mind-body-spirit system.

2️⃣ Myth: Mental illness is lifelong and cannot be cured, only managed with meds.
Truth: When we resolve root causes, healing is absolutely possible.

3️⃣ Myth: Psychiatric medications are lifesavers.
Truth: At best, they are a short-term band-aid. Without addressing the root causes, they create long-term harm and dependence.

4️⃣ Myth: Antidepressants are safe and reduce the risk of su***de.
Truth: Studies show they increase risks of suicidality, especially during dose changes or withdrawal.

5️⃣ Myth: Medications don’t cause dependence, and you can stop them anytime.
Truth: Most psychiatric meds cause physiological dependence, which makes coming off very difficult without support.

It’s time to move beyond these myths and embrace true, root-cause healing.

Which of these myths surprised you the most?

On this day, we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of those who showed up in the face of unimaginable terror and horror.

The trauma of 9/11 runs deep, but so does the resilience, compassion, and unity that arose in its wake.

May we continue to remember, to heal, and to let our strength be found in connection with one another. Because, at our core, we are ONE… infinite and varied manifestation of the One that permeates all creation. With this sentiment, I invite everyone to hold space, compassion, and love for self and for all.

Much love and good mental health to all 🤍
