M.L. was a faithful member of Mt. Mariah Missionary Baptist Church until his health failed. M.L was ordained as a deacon in 2025 under Rev. Dr. Willie L. Tukes, Jr. Being a deacon was M.L.'s most wonderful honors, but his greatest honor was being called "Granddad." He loved each and every one of his grandchildren equally.

Richard Otto Weiler, 73, passed away peacefully at home in New Bern on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Rick dedicated his life to service through his work in law enforcement, the fire service, and years of volunteering in Scouting, where he mentored many young men, including his sons.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Rick found joy in family time, being on the water, fishing, music, and life’s simple moments. He will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and sense of humor, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
