On this Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave everything in service to our country and we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served and sacrificed.

This morning, Crystal Odham, Gary Lingman, Jack Meehan, Tony Roberg, and George Orsega represented Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory at the Memorial Day Ceremony at New Bern National Cemetery — organized by the Veterans Council of Craven County. We were honored to provide tents, chairs, and water in support of this meaningful event.

New Bern National Cemetery has stood since 1867 as a sacred place of remembrance; the resting place of veterans who took an oath to defend our Constitution, including nearly 1,000 unknown soldiers who gave their lives near our community. Today, we joined neighbors, families, and fellow veterans in preserving that legacy.

We are proud to be part of a community that remembers.

Wishing everyone a safe and reflective Memorial Day.

At Cotten Funeral Home, we understand that losing a spouse changes everything, and that navigating that change alone can feel overwhelming. That's why we are exploring the creation of a new community group called Still Waters, designed specifically for widows and widowers seeking connection, understanding, and a place to simply belong. 🤍💙

Still Waters will offer a warm, low-pressure environment where members gather monthly or bi-monthly, typically over a meal at a local restaurant, with occasional guest speakers and group outings to community events. The goal is straightforward: meaningful conversation and genuine companionship among people who truly understand. 🫂

To introduce this initiative, we will host a soft launch on June 25 2026 in a private dining setting at a local restaurant. As a welcome gesture, the cost of the meal will be covered for all widowed attendees. Still Waters is open to any widow or widower in our community, not only families we have served. Non-widowed guests are warmly welcome to accompany an attendee to the launch but will be responsible for their own meal.

Following the launch, future gatherings will be self-pay, giving members the freedom to participate at whatever pace feels right for them.

If you or someone you know might find comfort and connection through Still Waters, we invite you to call us or send a message to learn more. If you would like to attend the soft launch, please phone us at 252-637-3181 to reserve your seat or email christie.noe@dignitymemorial.com

~ Even in life's most difficult seasons, you do not have to walk alone.
