A.W. Williams, Jr. was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, where he grew up in Ocean View with countless stories to tell. From his days with the Barefoot Boys to playing football for Granby High School and traveling to the Orange Bowl, he was a natural storyteller who loved sharing tales of family and his younger years with anyone who would listen. He would sometimes sing little songs to punctuate his stories and bring smiles to those around him.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 2:00pm at Garber Church in New Bern with a reception following at Morris Hall. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Education is a vital part of our lives and too often we overlook the teachers, administrators, and staff. To honor them and show a little appreciation, Cotten took some treats to New Bern High School, West Craven High School, Havelock High, Epiphany, New Bern Christian, and Calvary Baptist School. While the treats may be a small gesture, our appreciation to all teachers, administrators, and staff exceeds more than words can express.

We challenge everyone to do something small as a thank you to a teacher, administrator, and/or staff of a school. A little thank you goes a long way.

Congratulations to our Service Support Specialist, Melissa Gaskins on her three year work anniversary! I know I speak for everyone that we are blessed to have her on our team! She has many talents. Whether she is creating just the right service folder, bookmark or prayer card, she is in her "element" and very supportive to our staff and the families we serve. Melissa is a life-long resident of Craven County. She and her husband Brandon have two sons, Christopher and Parker and she is a member of New Life Church. When she isn't at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, boating, fishing, hunting and playing sports.
