MEET THE OWNERS:
All the way from Mustang, OK we bring to you... Laura McCoy! Laura moved to New Bern, NC in 2016. (The hot, muggy summers and palmetto bugs must have won her over.) Starting off, Laura worked as a waitress and then quickly moved up the totem pole to a bartender; no surprise there. With her outgoing personality and quick wits she was perfect for the job. (TIP YOUR BARTENDERS PEOPLE.) Shortly after meeting Max, Laura pursued a new job renting homes. -Blah Blah Blah... Let’s get to the CBD part already!- CBD shops were popping up all over Laura’s hometown sparking her interest. After weeks of research, she went on a hunt for CBD shops nearby and came up empty handed. Driven to show others this magical plants benefits, she drafted out a plan. Fulfilling both her passion for healing people while also promoting local businesses and artists, Above the Roots grew into a reality.
Born and raised south of the Mason Dixon line, straight from Craven County we bring you the jet flying, limousine riding, stylin & profilin, wild west son of a gun Maxwell. Max graduated from New Bern High School (08, DON’T HATE!) and then joined the U.S. Army the following year in November 2009. Being trained in the intelligence field he was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland where he worked for the National Security Agency. All the while staying current on the legalization efforts for Medical Cannabis across America. As the movement built larger and larger he decided the time was right to exit the Army, settle down and return home to his family. After meeting Laura and becoming more focused on owning a small business they set off to learn more about CBD and its healing properties. Out came Above the Roots. While bartending at a local establishment at night and running a business during the day, Maxwell finds the time to educate himself in preparation for a possible expansion into the cultivation of Medical Cannabis in the future, his dream come true.
