Amos Mantyla III Funeral Service

Amos was the kind of man who could always be counted on. He believed in hard work, showing up for people, and loving his family with everything he had. Whether he was at the fire department, out on the water with a fishing pole in hand, or gathered around a table with those he loved most, Amos made people feel safe, welcomed, and valued.

Today, we were honored to celebrate the life of Amos O. Mantyla, III — a man remembered for his kindness, character, and service to those around him.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the West of New Bern Fire Department and the Craven County Fireman's Association Honor Guard for the respect and dignity they showed in honoring our friend, Amos, today. Your presence was a powerful tribute not only to his life, but to the brotherhood and tradition of service you represent.

We are also thankful for the commitment each of you makes every day to protect and serve our communities. Your willingness to stand watch in times of emergency, loss, and uncertainty does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for helping us honor Amos with such compassion and respect. ❤️🚒

Charles had a deep appreciation for history, reading, classical music and art, anything maritime, his family sharing a meal around the table, good conversations, and much more. In his earlier years, he was an avid traveler who enjoyed an adventure and immersing himself in culture. In his later years, one of his greatest joys was watching the achievements and adventures of his family.

Charles was born on March 15th, 1938 and passed away on May 22nd, 2026 at the age of 88

He was a farmer in every sense of the word, tending to to***co, corn, beans, sweet potatoes, pigs, and everything else that was part of the farm. His deep connection to the land and his diligent work contributed significantly to the community's agricultural prosperity. As he spent his days turning the soil, planting seeds, and harvesting crops, Jessie's life was a testament to the courage and dedication that define the life of a farmer.

Jessie was born on November 21st, 1962 and passed away on May 24th, 2026 at the age of 63

The only thing Anna loved more than helping people was her family. Nothing was more important to her than the health and well-being of her children, who she encouraged and taught as best as she could to be good people. She loved to have fun, whether that meant listening to a wide variety of music, playing baseball, going to a museum, going to the movies (and occasionally sneaking into one), or just playing hooky and going for a scenic drive. She had a keen appreciation of history and loved to learn, ceaselessly watching documentaries and reading about a vast array of subjects.

Anna was born on November 1st, 1966 and passed away on May 9th, 2026 at the age of 59

Today, we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or the start of summer — it is a sacred reminder that freedom has always come at a profound cost.

As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a quiet moment to reflect on those who never made it home, the families who carry their memory every day, and the legacy of sacrifice that continues to shape our nation.

At Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care, we are honored to serve families who preserve the stories and memories of those they love. May we never forget the courage, service, and sacrifice of our fallen heroes.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country.

“Thirteen folds.
2.3 pounds.
The weight of a folded flag—measurable in ounces, but to those left behind, it’s heavier than the world.”

Today, we honor the sacrifice behind every folded flag and hold close the families who carry that weight every day.

From all of us at Bennett Funeral & Cremation Care, we extend our deepest gratitude to those who served and to the loved ones who continue to remember them.

This Memorial Day weekend, I wanted to share a meaningful military tradition many people may not know about.

Coins left on a veteran’s gravestone each carry a message of remembrance, respect, and brotherhood. From a penny to a quarter, every coin tells part of a story.

As a funeral director, I believe it’s important to preserve and share these traditions that honor the lives and sacrifices of our veterans.

This Memorial Day, may we remember those who gave everything for our freedom. 🇺🇸

This morning, before most of the world had fully started its day, our family joined scores of others at New Bern National Cemetery for one simple but deeply meaningful mission: to help place more than 7,000 American flags on the graves of our nation’s heroes.

Row after row, stone after stone, flag after flag.

There was something powerful about watching children carefully carry handfuls of flags across the grass, veterans pausing quietly at certain names, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts working side by side, community groups spreading out across the cemetery, and ordinary citizens giving their time simply because remembrance matters.

No speeches were needed. The story was written in the silence.

As we walked among the headstones this morning, it was impossible not to think about the lives behind each marker — sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, friends — people who once laughed around dinner tables, tucked children into bed, made plans for the future, and ultimately gave something greater than themselves in service to our country.

Memorial Day is often seen as the unofficial start of summer, but mornings like this remind us of its true meaning. It is a day of remembrance. A day to pause. A day to honor those who never made it home.

Watching our children participate made the experience even more moving. There is something special about teaching the next generation that freedom is not free, and that remembering matters.

We are grateful to have stood alongside so many incredible people this morning — veterans groups, Scouts, community organizations, families, and neighbors — all united in gratitude and respect.

More than 7,000 flags now wave gently across those sacred grounds tonight.

And behind every single one is a story worth remembering. 🇺🇸
