đź–¤ Black History Month Spotlight đź–¤
This Black History Month, we honor the countless Black individuals whose leadership, resilience, and contributions have shaped our nation, often in the face of significant barriers. Their impact continues to influence the way we live, care for one another, and build stronger communities today.
One such trailblazer is Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first Black woman physician in the United States. Practicing medicine in the 1800s, Dr. Crumpler dedicated her career to caring for formerly enslaved individuals, women, and older adults, many of whom had little to no access to medical care.
She later authored A Book of Medical Discourses, one of the first medical texts written by a Black physician, with a focus on preventive care and long-term wellness. Her work laid an early foundation for compassionate, accessible healthcare, values that continue to shape how we think about wellness and aging today.
We’re proud to reflect on the individuals who paved the way for dignity, care, and health at every stage of life.
