Therapy for kids isn't about putting your child on a couch and asking them to "talk about their feelings" — it's about meeting them where they are. 💙

Children process the world differently than adults. They don't always have the language to name what they're feeling, and that can show up as anxiety, big emotions, behavior changes, or withdrawal.

A skilled therapist creates a safe, age-appropriate space where kids can work through what's going on — whether that's anxiety, a tough life transition, grief, trauma, or just learning how to navigate big feelings.

If you've been wondering whether therapy could help your child, you're not alone in asking — and reaching out is never the wrong move.

Mother's Day looks different for everyone, and there's beauty in all of it.

Maybe you're celebrating an incredible mom, honoring the memory of one you've lost, soaking in the chaos and joy of motherhood yourself, or showing up for the mother figures who shaped you along the way.

Whatever this day means to you, it's worth honoring.
And if you're a mom reading this: you deserve to be poured into, too.

Rest counts. Asking for help counts. Taking care of your mental health is one of the most loving things you can do for yourself and for the people who love you. 💙

To all the moms, mother figures, and big-hearted humans out there: Happy Mother's Day from all of us at Riverbend.

This is exactly what we hope every client feels when they walk through our doors. 💙

Opening up to a stranger is hard. It takes courage just to make the call, let alone share the things you've been holding onto. That's why we work so hard to make Riverbend feel like a safe, judgment-free space from the very first session.

If you've been thinking about starting therapy but worried about whether you'll feel comfortable, please know: you set the pace. A good therapist meets you where you are and earns your trust over time.

Whenever you're ready, we're here.

Now accepting new clients.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💙

Did you know? 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition each year. That's not a small number. That's your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family.

That may even be you.

This month is a reminder that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your body.

Go for the walk. Set the boundary. Call the friend. Rest without guilt. Say the thing out loud instead of carrying it alone.

And if the time feels right, we're here to help. At Riverbend Counseling, we'll match you with a therapist who actually fits. Someone you feel safe with and supported by.

Not everyone who hurts you is a narcissist.

We’ve seen this word everywhere lately—and while it can be helpful to name patterns, it can also oversimplify really complex dynamics.

Human behavior is layered. Relationships are nuanced. And not everything fits neatly into a single label.

Pop psychology can be a great starting point—but it’s not the full picture.

Understanding what’s actually going on is where real clarity (and growth) happens.

Anger doesn’t always look the same for women.

Sometimes it shows up as overwhelm, resentment, shutting down, or feeling like you’re carrying too much for too long. And often, it’s been misunderstood, minimized, or pushed aside.

That’s exactly why we created our Women’s Anger Management Group—a space designed specifically for how women experience and process anger, with support that actually fits.

Our new group meets in 8-week cycles on Wednesdays from 5:45–7:00 PM (virtually).

✨ Private pay only
✨ $75 per class (includes workbook)
✨ Led by Julie Ross, LPC, Associate (supervised by Jay Jeter, LPC-S, CART)
✨ Eligible for a 10-hour certificate of completion

You’ll learn practical tools to understand your anger, regulate your emotions, and communicate in ways that feel clear, confident, and aligned.

If you’ve been feeling like your anger is either too much… or not allowed at all… this group is for you.

Want to join the Women’s Anger Management Group? 💬

It can feel uncomfortable to notice those patterns at first—but therapy isn’t about catching you doing something wrong.

It’s a space to slow down, get curious, and gently start choosing what actually works for you. We’re in it with you every step of the way.

04/21/2026

Honestly, we’re celebrating with you—big breakthroughs, tiny boundary wins, all of it 🎉

We love seeing those moments click and getting to hype you up along the way. It’s genuinely one of the best parts of being a therapist.

✨ Meet Kat Kaatz! ✨
Navy veteran. World traveler. Bookworm. LOTR superfan. Animal lover. Gamer. And clinically supervised graduate intern at Riverbend Counseling.

Kat has lived in Italy 🇮🇹 and Japan 🇯🇵, served in the military, and has seen enough of the world to know that life is beautifully complex...and sometimes really hard.

That breadth of experience shapes the way she shows up for her clients: with empathy, curiosity, and zero judgment.
Clinically supervised graduate intern, Kat creates a safe, culturally aware space for people navigating life transitions, relationship stress, intimacy concerns, and emotional overwhelm.

She specializes in care for veterans and military families, older adults, children, and individuals with autism and their caregivers.

Whether you're facing a big life change or just feel like you've been carrying too much for too long, Kat meets you where you are — and walks with you toward clarity and confidence.

She's also a proud LGBTQ+ ally, because everyone deserves a space where they feel truly safe. 🏳️‍🌈
