Estradiol-Based Hormone Therapy
Associated With Higher Memory Scores In Cognitively Normal Postmenopausal Women, Study Finds MedPage Today (8/27, George) reports a study suggests that "cognitively normal postmenopausal women who used estradiol-based hormone therapy had higher memory scores than their counterparts who didn't." Researchers observed that "compared with those who never had menopausal hormone therapy, postmenopausal women who used transdermal estradiol had higher episodic memory scores, while those who took oral estradiol had better prospective memory scores." Furthermore, "earlier age at menopause was associated with lower cognitive scores across all three domains tested - episodic memory, prospective memory, and executive function.

What is that watery layer on top of yogurt?
⚡It's whey, a protein in milk.

What is going on with my yogurt?
🤓Liquid separation happens to all yogurt over time, and it’s not a sign of spoilage. Over time, that liquid rises to the top of the container because it’s less dense than the solid yogurt.

Should you pour it out?

No, because:

✔️whey is healthy

✔️It's a key part of what makes yogurt such a powerhouse snack

✔️It's a complete protein

✔️ It’s a great source of calcium, probiotics, and vitamins

✔️It help make you feel fuller for longer

I always love weighing in on articles- thanks Lauren Manaker MS, RDN, LD, CLEC for the fabulous article

When do you toss vs keep moldy food? In order to reduce food waste-- and save some of your hard earned food dollars- it's always good to know what mold is and the guidelines on how to deal with moldy foods.

WHAT IS MOLD?
Molds are fungi that are transported by air, water or insects. They may appear green/blue fuzzy dots on bread, cheese, and produce, but they have branches and roots that can be growing very deep into the food. Some can even produce poisonous toxins.

KEEP OR TOSS?
❎ TOSS ➡️ Bread as mold can grow in its porous surface

✅KEEP ➡️ Firm fruits and veggies like cabbage, bell peppers, potatoes-- if you find mold, then cut off one inch around and below the mold spot. Make sure the knife doesn’t touch the mold and end up cross-contaminating into other parts of the produce.

❎TOSS ➡️ Soft fruits and vegetables strawberries, peaches, cucumbers and tomatoes should be discarded as these fruits and vegetables are high in moisture, the mold can exist deep into it.

✅❎DEPENDS ➡️Cheeses made with mold like blue cheese and Stilton or soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert are made with mold as part of their creation process. If mold that is not part of their processing grows on it, then steps should be taken to ensure safety.

❎If the cheese is a soft cheese like Brie and Camembert and a mold that is not part of their processing grows, then discard it.

✅If it is a hard cheese like Gorgonzola and Stilton, then cut off the mold at least one inch around and below the mold spot and handle it like hard cheese (above).
