PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) has officially been renamed to PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome. This is a WILD move for Women’s Health and we are so excited about it!

Why does this actually matter?
-So many women struggle for years without a diagnosis simply because doctors weren’t checking the right labs or listening for the right symptoms. Many doctors would dismiss the diagnosis if your ultrasound was clear and cysts weren’t involved.
-What changes now is the realization that majority of women with this condition don’t even have cysts!!!! Instead, this new name highlights the reality of the syndrome, which is that it drastically impacts metabolic, endocrine, and reproductive health. Symptoms like insulin resistance, weight gain, missed periods, and infertility are now making their rightful way into the diagnosis.
-This matters because it means the title more accurately represents the condition. Therefore, the hope is less girls will walk away from a doctor’s visit still struggling with no diagnosis or corrective care.

What we check already and why many functional/integrative medical practices were ahead of the curve…
-HOMA/IR ratio (insulin resistance)
-Total and Free testosterone
-SHBG
-DHEA-S
-Progesterone
-and more

This syndrome is a WHOLE BODY syndrome! And now the name more accurately represents that.

What change should be next in Women’s Health? 👀🫢

A helpful guide to eating a balanced diet for your gut. Eat the rainbow! Many adults don’t come close to eating foods from each color group every week. Something as simple as shifting your focus before you go grocery shopping can actually help you incorporate more variety into your meals. And it’s honestly easier than you think! The next time you are out shopping for produce, try to pick something up from each color group. The more variety in colors, the more diversity you are introducing to your gut microbiome. And by that I mean, your gut actually benefits from eating more colorful foods! Just not the processed dyed ones. 🤪 Stick to the whole food sources. And don’t forget spices count too!!!

For the parents out there — make it a game with your kids to see how many colors you can eat in one day! Starting variety at a young age is so beneficial to developing your child’s gut microbiome and helping them learn that nutrition can actually help their bodies grow and move better! Nutrition actually changes the game. The gut plays a large role in mood regulation, immune function, skin clarity, muscle development, mental stability, and so much more! Your child that struggles to pay attention in class, has random skin rashes, and a tummy ache when they eat may actually just need a shift in their diet! So it’s not just for us adults, kids need variety and color too! Every color offers different nutritional value and helps develop a balanced gut. Plus it’s fun!

No but actually how is it May????? Let’s jump back to April for a second and reflect on some of Teresa’s favorite healthy habits for the month.

-Electrolytes! Made the list again who is surprised? Specifically this month it’s the pink lemonade LMNT. Tastes like summer ☀️
-Speaking life and healing over our bodies! Your mind and body work together. Sometimes the thought patterns need to shift to really work with your body instead of against it. Let’s be gentle and kind to our bodies with our words, they’ve gotten us through so much! 🫶🏻
-FIBER. Really enjoying the focus fiber is getting and deserves. Your meal can’t just be protein all the time. You have to support your gut microbiome with diversity in your diet! Your gut will thank you. 🥦
-After lunch walks are a habit that will never die. This is such a simple and helpful trick for blood sugar regulation. Walking after a meal shoves that glucose you just consumed into the muscles to be used. It’s wild how much this can help. 💪🏼
-Decreasing plastic exposure. This one takes time and effort but it really is worth investigating. There is plastic actually everywhere so it takes some creativity. Plastic is disruptive to your hormones and can cause inflammation, chronic illness, and so much more. 😵‍💫

Fiber isn’t just a fad. It’s actually crucial to a balanced diet and a healthy body. Protein is great and important for building lean muscle mass. But if you’ve dropped your fruits, veggies, lentils, nuts, and seeds out of your diet your body will begin to fight back. It’s not just about regular bowels, fiber actually plays a crucial role in so many different systems. From blood sugar regulation to hormone balance and even liver detox support, fiber helps your body in a number of ways! So when we say focus on whole food sources and increase variety in your foods we mean it!

This is not medical advice just some good ole education as per usual 🖤✨😌

Just to clarify some things……🫢

Technology is great and the internet is helpful, but at the end of the day you can’t take the word of AI over a trained professional. Still do your research and ask your questions, but trust the knowledge and expertise that you came to in the first place. We all do it, the late night google searches and symptom checkers, but you can’t replace experience and proficiency with a computer.

Another month done!? This year is flying by. But we are back with another round of healthy habit favorites from Teresa!

1. Sunshine is back and dare I say it’ll stay for the season! Soak up that vitamin D! (In a safe way of course) ☀️
2. Listening to your body!!!! More often than not we are told to suck it up and push through. But especially for those of us who have any type of autoimmune disorder this can actually cause more harm than good. If your body feels exhausted maybe don’t jump into that high intensity workout. Listen to your cues, try to work with your body and not against it. Slowing down for a little may actually help your recovery and allow you to keep going in a steady pace instead of burning out. 👟
3. Gluten free treats! Just a personal favorite that has resurfaced. 🤪
4. Gut health! A focus this month has been going back to the basics. Gut health gets thrown around a lot in the media but it really is just a focus on healing, repairing, or maintaining a well balanced gut microbiome. So much of our body functions actually rely on what is happening in our gut. From immune system, to emotional balance, to sleep, to energy, there is a lot that can be altered just by having problems in your gut. This is a big focus of the practice! 💚
5. Strength exercises! She’s said it before and she’ll say it again, building and mainting muscle mass is key as we age! It alters metabolism, movement, energy levels, and obviously strength. From body weights to lifting heavy, there is so much benefit in focusing on trying to build muscle. 💪🏼

Well, that’s all folks. And as always this is for educational purposes only and not medical advice!

Our favorite machine! The InBody is a great tool to give us insight into your body’s composition. Muscle distribution, water weight, and fat broken down into distinct categories specific to your body in real time. It’s not just your average scale. It truly helps us see if your hard work and our interventions are helping shift things to move towards optimal body composition. It’s not about seeing the overall number on the scale drop, it’s about making sure it’s fat loss and not muscle wasting. There’s a huge difference! Adding in heavy weight lifting, weight bearing exercises, and focusing on whole food nutrition and hydration is a great way to work towards building up that muscle and dropping that excess fat. We aren’t chasing numbers, we’re chasing real life results that leave you feeling better from a whole body perspective.

As always, this is not medical advice this is for educational purposes only ✨

We don’t just suggest supplements, we take them too! But we get it, we can’t all be perfect. Supplement fatigue is real 🤠 Finding a rhythm that helps you remember is what works best! Don’t miss the good for the perfect!!!
