23 Supplements That Actually Work –
A Friendly Guide from VOCoMed to Our Vintage Oaks Family!

Hey there, neighbors!

Your friends at VocoMed are here with a handy guide to 23 supplements that actually work. Whether you're looking to boost your energy, sleep better, or support your overall wellness, this list has something for everyone. Let's dive in!

---

1. Vitamin D – The Immune Superstar

One of the best supplements for immune support, Vitamin D may help with autoimmune conditions, and it's also been linked to improvements in depression, glaucoma, low back and hip pain, deep bone pain, hair loss, and dermatitis.

2. Magnesium Glycinate – The Multitasker

This one does it all! It supports healthy blood sugar, blood pressure, and energy levels while helping with migraines, SLEEP, muscle cramps, arrhythmias, and even kidney stone prevention.

3. Betaine Hydrochloride – The Heartburn Helper

Struggling with heartburn or indigestion? Betaine HCl helps acidify the stomach and keeps that valve at the top of your stomach closed — right where it should be.

4. Zinc Carnosine – The Ulcer Remedy

Considered one of the best natural remedies for ulcers, zinc carnosine can also help calm down gastritis.

5. Selenium – The Thyroid's Friend

Especially beneficial for those dealing with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, selenium is a trace mineral worth knowing about.

6. Vitamin B1 – The Calm-Down Vitamin

Feeling nervous, stressed, or anxious? Vitamin B1 is an excellent remedy for nervous tension, worry, and even restless legs syndrome.

7. Benfotiamine – B1's Fat-Soluble Cousin

This special form of Vitamin B1 is particularly helpful for peripheral nerve issues — great for those dealing with tingling or numbness.

8. Calcium Lactate – The Cough Soother

If you've got a chronic cough that just won't quit, calcium lactate may be worth a try.

9. Iron – The Energy Booster

Iron can help with low blood pressure and energy levels. Pro tip: Opt for food sources of iron (like red meat, spinach, and lentils) rather than supplements when possible!

10. Potassium – The Essential Mineral

Especially helpful for salt-sensitive folks, potassium is a must. Fun fact: You need about 4,700 mg every day — so load up on bananas, avocados, and sweet potatoes!

11. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) – The Statin Sidekick

If you're taking a statin medication, CoQ10 is considered essential to help replenish what statins can deplete.... or consider replacing your statin with Red Yeast.

12. Tocotrienols – Vitamin E's Power Player

The most potent form of Vitamin E, tocotrienols may support arterial health and have been linked to benefits for fibrosis, chest pain, and fertility.

13. TUDCA – The Versatile Bile Salt

This unique bile salt supplement isn't just for digestion — it may even support neurological health!

14. Iodine – The Hormone Balancer

Iodine can help with fibrocystic breast tissue and may assist in regulating excess estrogen.

15. Vitamin C – The Classic

A tried-and-true favorite, Vitamin C supports collagen production and can help with bleeding gums.

16. Probiotics – Your Gut's Best Friend

Vital for gut health, probiotics are especially important if you consume a lot of diet sodas or artificial sweeteners.

17. Biotin – The Beauty Vitamin

Want healthier hair, nails, and skin? Biotin is your go-to supplement.

18. Manganese – The Tic Tamer

This lesser-known mineral has been associated with helping manage Tourette's and tics.

19. NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) – The Liver's Ally

NAC supports liver function and can help your body eliminate toxins more effectively.

20. Mastic Gum – The Gastritis Soother

If gastritis is giving you trouble, mastic gum is a natural option worth exploring.

21. Melatonin – The Sleep Aid

Having trouble falling asleep? Melatonin is a well-known supplement that can help regulate your sleep cycle....but try the Mag FIRST. (;

22. Niacin (Vitamin B3) – The Cholesterol Manager

If cholesterol is a concern, niacin has long been recognized for its role in supporting healthy lipid levels.

23. Clove Oil – The Toothache Remedy

Got a toothache or sore gums? Clove oil is a time-tested natural remedy for oral pain relief.

Your Bathroom Might Be Your Best Longevity Tool.

Hey there neighbors!

Your friendly team at VOCo Med here with some fascinating health info for you to consider.

Scientists followed over 2,300 people for 20 years in one of the largest studies ever done on heat therapy. What they found was remarkable: People who used heat therapy (sauna or hot baths) 4-7 times per week had:
• 40% lower risk of dying from any cause
• 50% lower risk of fatal heart disease
• 60% lower risk of sudden cardiac death
• 51% lower risk of stroke
• 66% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or dementia

How does it work?
Heat stress activates special proteins in your body that repair damaged cells and prevent the protein buildup linked to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It also boosts a brain growth factor that helps create new neurons.

Here's the best part: You don't need a fancy sauna! Research shows hot baths can raise your core temperature even more effectively than dry saunas. Your body responds to the heat itself, not the setting.

Here's my pro-bono prescription?
20 minutes, 3-4 times per week, in hot water. That's it.

It's a simple habit that could add years to your life... and life to your years.

Questions or concerns?
Send me a private message or simply reply "HEAT" and I'll send a you a Heat Therapy Safety Guide.

Stay healthy, Vintage Oaks! 💙

Hey Vintage Oaks Fam... quick health tip that is an absolute game changer: MAG!

Magnesium is one of those “quietly essential” minerals your body depends on for 300+ functions - everything from energy and sleep to muscle and heart health. And the truth is, many of us are running low without even realizing it.

What can drain your magnesium?
• Chronic stress
• Caffeine (yes… your morning coffee)
• High-carb/high-sugar diets
• Alcohol

Common signs you might be low:
• Anxiety or feeling on edge
• Waking up in the middle of the night (especially around 2am)
• Eye twitching
• Heart pounding or chest tightness
• Mental fatigue or “brain exhaustion”
• Feeling wired but tired
• Low energy or sluggishness
• Sugar or carb cravings

Ways to improve magnesium levels naturally:
• Shift toward a lower-carb, whole-food diet
• Support stomach acid (this helps absorption more than people realize)
• Make sure your vitamin D levels are adequate
• Consider supplementation when appropriate

If supplementing(which I recommend):
Magnesium glycinate is usually my go-to - it’s well absorbed and has a calming effect. Most people do best taking it in the evening after dinner to support sleep.

If any of this sounds familiar, it might be worth a closer look. Magnesium deficiency is common, but also very fixable with the right approach.

As always, happy to help guide you - feel free to reach out or stop me around the neighborhood. If you'd prefer a link to the best one on Amazon, send me a message. I'm happy to share.

Less waiting room, more living room.

Imagine your doctor’s visits feeling more like a calm living room conversation with a trusted neighbor than a rushed checklist.

That’s the exact feel that I strive for with VOCo Med: a smaller panel of patients, more time together, and accessability. I believe in alternative modalities where they fit, and conventional medicine where it’s needed, without forcing you to choose a side.

If you had an unhurried hour with your provider tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d finally bring up?

Greetings, neighbor. If you’re feeling awful right now, you’re not alone. Cedar counts are high and many of us are dealing with sinus pressure, brain fog, and that “flu‑ish but not sick” feeling.

Consider starting or adjusting your allergy plan (prescription plus natural supports), and don’t hesitate to rest, hydrate, and/or limit outdoor time on these windy days. Need guidance on any of the above, with unlimited accessibility to a medical provider that actually responds? Shoot me a text at 210-650-2410.

You know that sinking feeling when your kiddo wakes up sick, can’t go to school, and the attendance office tells you they must have a doctor’s note for the absence to be excused?

With VOCoMed, that whole process gets a lot easier.

Imagine this:
Your child spikes a fever overnight and clearly can’t attend class. You contact VOCoMed, we evaluate your child (home visit or telehealth, as appropriate), and we provide documentation you can submit to the school to excuse the absence.

Most New Braunfels area schools follow Texas attendance law, which generally:

-Expect students to attend at least 90% of school days to receive credit.

-Allow illness‑related absences to be excused when a parent provides a written note and, in many cases, when you submit a note from a licensed health care provider for doctor visits or more significant illness.

-Require that notes explaining absences are turned in within a few days of your child returning to school, so the absence isn’t treated as unexcused.

As a VOCoMed member, you don’t have to scramble for a same‑day clinic:
We'll give you tier-based access for sick visits, and documentation for school or daycare as clinically appropriate.

If you’re a parent in our amazing community who juggles school emails, attendance warnings, and sick days, this is one of the many benefits of being taken care of by a neighbor... and our membership model is built with YOU in mind.

Note: Specific attendance and documentation rules can vary by district and campus. Always check your child’s student handbook or district website for exact policies.

VOCoMed family – great news for your health and your wallet.

Starting in 2026, some VOCoMed home visit and medical assessment services may qualify for reimbursement through HSA and FSA accounts, when they meet IRS definitions of eligible medical expenses and your individual plan’s rules.

What this means for you:

You may be able to use pre‑tax HSA/FSA dollars for certain qualified home health assessments and medically necessary visits, which could cover the cost of your care.

We now provide HSA/FSA‑friendly itemized receipts you can submit to your benefits administrator.
Eligibility still depends on your specific plan, diagnosis, and type of visit, so we always recommend confirming with your HSA/FSA provider.

If you’re a VOCoMed member and want to know whether an upcoming or past visit may be eligible, send us a text. We’ll help you generate the documentation you need and answer questions about which encounters may qualify under current 2026 guidelines.

End-of-January health check for Vintage Oaks

As we wrap up January in Vintage Oaks, we’re still in the middle of winter respiratory season, and flu plus other viral bugs remain active across Texas, so it’s a good time to stay cautious even if you and your family have felt well so far. Cooler, changeable Hill Country weather can also aggravate allergies and asthma, especially with more indoor time, closed windows, and heaters running.

A few friendly medi-holistic tips for our VO Fams:
- For sore throats and mild cough, many folks find a warm cup of Throat Comfort–style herbal tea (like the kind you can grab at H‑E‑B), with a spoonful of local Texas honey, soothing and hydrating. The tea will help boost your gut immune response through its bioactice compounds. Just remember, honey is not for children under 1 year old. Their lil guts haven't developed that protective barrier and microbiota that protects us big folks quite yet.
- Warm saltwater gargles, steamy showers, and a cool‑mist humidifier can ease throat irritation and congestion without medications.
- For mild aches or low‑grade fevers, rest, hydration (water, herbal teas, broths), and light, easy-to-digest foods often support recovery alongside any OTC meds; we can also call in something a bit more potent if needed.
- Allergy and asthma folks should stay on top of daily meds, keep inhalers handy, and rinse off/change clothes after outdoor time if symptoms are acting up. If you're out of your routine meds, we got you!

If you or your kids develop fever, persistent cough, sore throat, or body aches, especially in young children, older adults, or anyone with chronic conditions, consider early evaluation to check for flu or other respiratory infections. Antivirals become largely ineffective at reducing your sickness duration after the 3rd day of symptoms.

VOCo Medical is here for you and can help you sort out whether it’s allergies, a routine virus, or something more serious, and can also help you safely combine holistic comfort measures with evidence‑based treatment so you can head into February as healthy as possible.

Call or text 210-650-2410, to see how we can help make life a bit simpler for you and the family in our amazing community.

Health check for Vintage Oaks – First Half Jan, 2026

The first weeks of 2026 have brought classic Hill Country winter weather to our community, with cool mornings and mild afternoons that make it comfortable to get outside if you dress in layers. Overall air quality in Comal County has been in the **good** range, which is helpful for anyone managing asthma or other breathing issues.

Across Texas, flu and other respiratory illnesses are running very high right now, with doctors seeing a big uptick in flu-like cases, including in Central Texas.

If you are experiencing flu like symptoms, we recommend staying home when sick, frequent handwashing, and covering coughs and sneezes to help protect neighbors. We can also prescribe an antiviral for you which will help shorten the duration of your symptoms. Be advised that everyday after the initial onset of symptoms seems to decrease the effectiveness of antivirals, so they're not very helpful after the 3rd day.

Allergies are also on many people’s minds this time of year, and even though overall air quality has been favorable, shifting winter pollen can still trigger symptoms for sensitive residents.

A simple routine of checking daily air quality and pollen reports, rinsing off after outdoor time, and keeping windows closed on high-pollen days can make a big difference. There are also many meds available to address symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis.

For our Vintage Oaks community:
- Enjoy the cool, fresh air with walks and playtime outside, especially on clear afternoons.
- Watch for flu symptoms like fever, body aches, and cough, and call your doctor early if you’re concerned.
- If you have asthma, allergies, or other lung issues, keep inhalers and meds handy and check the daily air and pollen outlook before planning long outdoor activities.

Here’s to a healthy, active start to 2026 in Vintage Oaks! Take care of your lungs, look out for one another, and feel better knowing the air has been on our side even in a strong flu season.

Call or Text VOCo Med at 210-650-2410 for any questions concerning our subscription tiers. Become part of our family and rest comfortably knowing that a VO clinician is here for you when YOU need us most.
