💨 The Healing Power of Breath

During a hectic day or in the face of stressful events in our communities, our breath can be a helpful tool for grounding ourselves. Taking even just three minutes in a quiet, safe space to slow and steady our breath can help send the message to our bodies and minds that “in this moment, I am okay.”

Try this: Close your eyes, or soften your gaze. Without trying to force the breath in any way, pay attention to how your body moves each time you inhale and exhale. Perhaps you notice a subtle rising and falling sensation. If it feels right, invite a slight deepening of the inhale and a bit of a lengthening of the exhale. After a few moments, begin counting with each breath, one with the inhale, two with the exhale; three with the inhale, four with the exhale. Do this to the count of ten and then start over. Find your way through this rhythm several times - returning if you find your thougths drift - and check in with yourself after a few minutes of intentional, soothing breath. Do you notice feeling a little more settled in your body and mind? A tiny bit more steady in your thoughts and emotions? If you are interested in learning more about how the breath can contribute to a healthy mind and body, our therapists love to teach you some helpful tools - tailored just for you.

🌀 Change can be uncomfortable—even when it’s leading to something better. As you adjust to new rhythms in life, take time to slow down and check in with yourself. Use this journal prompt to reflect and realign:

▫️ What changes am I currently navigating, big or small?
▫️ How does my body respond to transition—what signs do I notice?
▫️ What helps me feel grounded when things are shifting?
▫️ Who or what brings me comfort during seasons of change?
▫️ What would it look like to embrace this transition with grace?
▫️ What’s one small ritual I could try this week to support balance?

🎉 Happy New Year!

As we welcome 2026, consider trading resolutions for intentions.
Instead of chasing someone else’s version of “better,” ask:

▫️ What truly matters to me?
▫️ Which values do I want to embody more this year?

Intentions act like a compass—not a pass/fail test. Let this be a year of grace, learning, and small choices aligned with your heart.

💫 Progress, not perfection.
💚 Growth, not pressure.
✨ Intention, not obligation.

🎁 Your Presence Is the Greatest Present

In a season filled with giving, one of the most meaningful gifts you can offer is your undivided attention. In a world of constant rushing and disengagement from each other, being truly present—with a friend, a child, a partner, or even yourself—is powerful. Turn off the phone, set down the to-do list, slow your pace, and really BE with someone. Presence is love.

Who in your life might need your full presence right now?
Your time, care, and attention may be just the gift they need.

Winter Solstice

As the longest night of the year arrives, we’re reminded of the power in quiet, in stillness—and in light returning.

The darkness of solstice invites reflection:
✨ Where are you being called to bring light and warmth?
✨ How can you show up with hope in dark seasons, for yourself or others?

“For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.” — Amanda Gorman

Wishing you moments of peace, presence, and gentle renewal today.

❄️ In the Bleak Midwinter

Sometimes, we trudge through life and sense a feeling of bleakness enclosing. Finding “comfort and joy” feels like a story other people live. But just like the Earth, our human hearts have seasons. While it can be difficult to dwell in the discomfort for long, it is important to remember that the season of darkness will pass and spring will come again. In the meantime, what are ways you can care for your body and soul during the “bleak midwinter?” At MCHW, one way we do this is through community. We believe that “life is a team sport,” and sometimes if we feel hopeless for a time, someone can hold that hope for us until we’re ready to hold it ourselves. Even during the darkest seasons, may you be blessed with the gift of someone to walk with you through it. In the bleak midwinter, you are not alone.

🍽️ Around the world and throughout history, humans have marked special times with shared meals and traditions. But not every holiday table feels joyful. For those navigating eating disorders, body image struggles, painful family dynamics, or deep loneliness, the season can be overwhelming.

If this resonates with you—or someone you love—know that it’s okay to feel out of sync with the celebration. You’re not alone.

💛 You can step away when needed to reset.
💛 You can set boundaries AND reach out for support.
💛 You can offer yourself kindness if joy feels hard to reach.

Tending to ourselves and each other with compassion and care is, in itself, worth celebrating.

Happy Thanksgiving 🧡

Gratitude often comes easily when life feels full. But what about the moments that feel heavy, uncertain, or painful?

Research shows that simply being willing to notice something—anything—to be grateful for can shift our mood and improve well-being. On hard days, it might be as simple as clean water, a warm meal, or shelter from the cold.

And if finding gratitude feels hard today, that’s okay too. Offering yourself compassion in those moments is its own kind of grace—and perhaps, something to be thankful for.

✨ Today, we’re honoring both the joy and the effort it takes to keep your heart open. ✨
