Winter Solstice

As the longest night of the year arrives, we’re reminded of the power in quiet, in stillness—and in light returning.

The darkness of solstice invites reflection:
✨ Where are you being called to bring light and warmth?
✨ How can you show up with hope in dark seasons, for yourself or others?

“For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.” — Amanda Gorman

Wishing you moments of peace, presence, and gentle renewal today.

❄️ In the Bleak Midwinter

Sometimes, we trudge through life and sense a feeling of bleakness enclosing. Finding “comfort and joy” feels like a story other people live. But just like the Earth, our human hearts have seasons. While it can be difficult to dwell in the discomfort for long, it is important to remember that the season of darkness will pass and spring will come again. In the meantime, what are ways you can care for your body and soul during the “bleak midwinter?” At MCHW, one way we do this is through community. We believe that “life is a team sport,” and sometimes if we feel hopeless for a time, someone can hold that hope for us until we’re ready to hold it ourselves. Even during the darkest seasons, may you be blessed with the gift of someone to walk with you through it. In the bleak midwinter, you are not alone.

🍽️ Around the world and throughout history, humans have marked special times with shared meals and traditions. But not every holiday table feels joyful. For those navigating eating disorders, body image struggles, painful family dynamics, or deep loneliness, the season can be overwhelming.

If this resonates with you—or someone you love—know that it’s okay to feel out of sync with the celebration. You’re not alone.

💛 You can step away when needed to reset.
💛 You can set boundaries AND reach out for support.
💛 You can offer yourself kindness if joy feels hard to reach.

Tending to ourselves and each other with compassion and care is, in itself, worth celebrating.

Happy Thanksgiving 🧡

Gratitude often comes easily when life feels full. But what about the moments that feel heavy, uncertain, or painful?

Research shows that simply being willing to notice something—anything—to be grateful for can shift our mood and improve well-being. On hard days, it might be as simple as clean water, a warm meal, or shelter from the cold.

And if finding gratitude feels hard today, that’s okay too. Offering yourself compassion in those moments is its own kind of grace—and perhaps, something to be thankful for.

✨ Today, we’re honoring both the joy and the effort it takes to keep your heart open. ✨

🎃 What’s truly spooky?

Not ghosts or goblins — but how much of our free time is consumed by screens. Studies (like those in The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt) show rising concerns about how tech overuse impacts our cognition, relationships, and mental health.

As the weather cools and we retreat indoors, consider this challenge: go “analog” for a day, a weekend, or even a week.

Delete social media apps
Read a real book
Take a walk — no phone
Make a bonfire or do a craft
Call a friend instead of texting

Notice what feels hard — is it boredom, anxiety, a fear of missing out? And then notice what emerges in the quiet. More presence. More clarity. More you.

🧠 Your brain, body, and relationships will thank you.

🍎 Autumn Together
Nourish your body, connect as a family, and enjoy the simple joy of seasonal eating.

Fall is the perfect time to enjoy crisp apples—fresh from the orchard or your local market. Cooking with seasonal fruits and vegetables isn’t just delicious—it’s packed with nutritional benefits like fiber, antioxidants, and natural sweetness that supports energy and mood.

Looking for screen-free, soul-filling family time? Try apple picking together, then head to the kitchen to make:
🥗 Apple Crunch Salad
Toss sliced apples with spinach, walnuts, dried cranberries, and crumbled feta. Drizzle with olive oil + a splash of apple cider vinegar.

🥧 Mini Apple Crisp Cups
Mix chopped apples with cinnamon and a dash of maple syrup. Top with oats + butter + brown sugar. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.

Whether you’re chopping apples with your kids, moving your body in the warm fall sun, or savoring a delicious dish at the table, these small seasonal rituals can boost both physical and mental health - and make lasting memories together.
