Today marks a really special day for me—it's my 12th anniversary serving this incredible community as the dentist at New Brighton Family Dentistry!
It feels like just yesterday I was starting out, and now I look back on over a decade of check-ups, fillings, and, most importantly, countless conversations and laughs. This isn't just a practice; it’s a second home, and every patient who sits in my chair is like family.

🦷Meet Petra – Dental Hygienist Extraordinaire🦷

Petra has been brightening smiles since 2000, bringing precision, warmth, and a touch of adventure to every appointment. Before dentistry, she led a thrilling life as a professional bull rider, until an unexpected turn of events steered her toward the world of oral health. Today, she’s just as fearless in the dental chair as she was in the arena.

Outside the clinic, Petra is a proud mom to three adult sons (one of whom is a twin) and enjoys escaping to her beloved lake home up north, a family treasure with a legendary origin story involving a high-stakes poker game. She’s known for her quick wit, boundless energy, and surprising fluency in German, courtesy of one of her six vibrant personalities.

Petra’s unique journey and spirited personality make her a favorite among patients and colleagues alike. She’s proof that a great hygienist doesn’t just clean teeth, she makes people smile.

🦷 Exciting news from New Brighton Family Dentistry! 🦷

We're thrilled to welcome Dr. Tara Vattadi to our team! Get to know our newest addition!

Hi! My name is Dr. Tara Vattadi! I am a new transplant to the Twin Cities! I grew up in a small beach town in California called Santa Cruz where I was spoiled by year-round sunshine. Through my own dental and orthodontic treatments, I decided early on that dentistry would be the right fit for me to combine my interest in science, passion for working with people, and using my hands to make art.

This made the decision to move to Michigan to pursue a combined B.A. in Chemistry and D.D.S degree an easy one. After completing dental school, I decided to further my dental training by completing a General Practice Residency in Chicago, IL. I practiced for 5 years in California before deciding to head back to the Midwest and join my fiance in Minnesota. To say I am excited to be joining New Brighton Family Dentistry is an understatement!

Outside of building patient relationships and talking about dentistry to anyone that will listen, my hobbies include cooking, reading, anything fitness related, and attempting to sew (much harder than I thought!!). I love spending time with family and friends, and traveling whenever possible. I am also an avid “foodie”, so I am always looking for restaurant recommendations!

🦷 Get to know us – Kaylie Nordahl, LDH 🦷

I’m originally from Cambridge-Isanti and earned my degree in dental hygiene from Lake Superior College in Duluth, graduating in 2020. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Dental Therapy. I’m especially passionate about creating a calm and supportive environment for patients with dental anxiety. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two Australian Shepherds, Remi and Luna.

Celebrating Dr. Sophie Bengson at New Brighton Family Dentistry!

We have been honored to have Dr. Sophie Bengson as part of our team at New Brighton Family Dentistry over the past few months! Her dedication to patient care and enthusiasm for dentistry have made a lasting impact, and we couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter in her journey.

Dr. Bengson’s academic achievements reflect her commitment to excellence. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2019, followed by her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2023. Most recently, she completed advanced education in general dentistry at NYU Langone Health in Nashville, Tennessee, further refining her skills and expertise.

Passionate about working with people, Dr. Bengson finds immense joy in helping patients achieve their oral health goals. She values the continuous advancement of dentistry, embracing new challenges and innovations to ensure the highest level of care.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Bengson thrives in an active lifestyle. Whether she’s running, hiking, spending time on the lake, or exploring new workout classes, she loves being outdoors. She’s also a devoted fan of live music and great food, frequently attending concerts and discovering new restaurants. Travel is another passion, and she is always planning her next adventure. Most importantly, she cherishes time spent with her family and friends.

As Dr. Bengson embarks on her residency in endodontics this July, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes. She has been an invaluable part of our team, and we are confident she will continue to make a meaningful difference in the field of dentistry!

Dr. Grayson West, DDS is a dedicated and skilled dentist with deep roots in Minnesota. A graduate of the University of Minnesota Dental School, he began his academic journey studying chemistry at the same institution before pursuing his passion for dentistry. Dr. West is a proud member of both the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association, staying committed to advancing his expertise and providing top-tier care to his patients.

Originally from Blaine, Dr. West comes to us from St. Paul Family Dentistry, where he worked alongside his father, also a dentist. His dream of becoming a dentist started when he was just five years old, and now, with his own clinic, he has turned that lifelong aspiration into reality.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. West leads a vibrant life filled with family and hobbies. He is the proud father of four wonderful children—Torben, Lucy, Linnea, and Axel—who bring joy to his days. A fluent Japanese speaker, he spent a year in Japan as an exchange student, an experience that broadened his perspective and enriched his life. He enjoys playing piano and viola, finding relaxation in music. A passionate baker, he delights in making birthday cakes for his kids and coworkers, and he loves spending time outdoors, especially hiking and visiting Arizona. Dr West is happily engaged to his fiancé, Austen, and they are looking forward to building their future together.

With a warm demeanor, a commitment to excellence, and a deep love for his craft, Dr. West is honored to serve his community and bring smiles to those he meets.
