Let’s Talk About the “Psoas”

You may have heard people say “I need my psoas worked on” — but here’s the truth most don’t talk about. The psoas major is a deep, internal hip flexor that sits behind your abdominal organs and connects directly to the lumbar spine.

Because of this, it cannot truly be massaged directly in a safe or precise way.

What can be addressed manually is the iliacus, its partner muscle, along with:

surrounding fascia

breathing mechanics

hip and spinal positioning

nervous system tone

Delilah Beasley
Many consider Delilah Leontium Beasley to be the first Black massage therapist. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1871, Beasley is considered one of the earliest and most prominent examples of African American massage practitioners.
