Grad worker leaders at today's Rutgers Board of Governors meeting!!

At the meeting today, among other things, the university approved it's budget - a decision which includes the continued appropriation of it's upwards of 800 million dollars in unrestricted to reserves to undisclosed projects and other rainy day funds -- basically more $$ going to undisclosed projects rather than accounting for the raises and reduced healthcare costs that it's 20,000+ unionized workers are demanding at the bargaining table!

They also approved a 2.3% hike in tuition for all students (masters and doctoral students included), all while patting themselves on the back for being a "high-aid" institution for undergrads. They raise while refusing to meet the demands of students workers and Rutgers United Students Against Sweatshops Local 109 to student workers a a living wage of $15/hr.

Grad workers showed up to highlight the use of the PTL positions in place of teaching assistant and graduate assistant positions to serve as grad funding - a difference which amounts to a a cut in salary of upwards of more than 20,0000$. per year minus benefits and tuition remission, This is an obvious and intentional practice that undercuts better paid positions for grad workers and serves to further exploit PTLs system-wide.

But TAs.GAs. and PTLs are speaking up! This is only the beginning. The BOG better get used to seeing grad workers out and holding them accountable! It's time to fight back!
