RWJUH, and faculty and staff recently completed the second Day in the Life simulation at the Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center.

This simulation was designed to prepare our teams for perioperative services and inpatient care transitioning to the Morris Cancer Center in the coming months. The day-long exercise gave staff a chance to practice clinical scenarios and test equipment in the center’s new operating rooms and in 10+ inpatient rooms. Thank you to everyone who helped make the simulation a tremendous success!

More than 500 team members throughout RWJBarnabas Health recently came together to recognize excellence and innovation at our 16th Annual Quality and Patient Safety Forum.

Quality and Patient Experience are the foundation of everything we do and reflect our commitment to providing the safest, most effective and compassionate care possible.

Following Quality and Patient Safety Fairs held throughout the system, 50+ podium and poster presentations were exhibited at the Forum on topics including patient safety, employee engagement, patient experience and population health. Jim Merlino, EVP and Chief Innovation Officer of the Joint Commission, provided the keynote address.

A collaborative sharing of ideas, creativity and passion, the Quality and Patient Safety Forum demonstrated the power of a multi-disciplinary approach as we fulfill our mission to build and sustain a healthier New Jersey.

We recently celebrated the graduation of 12 registered nurses from our OR (Operating Room) Foundations Program. The rigorous 39-week training curriculum is designed to train nurses without any OR experience and transform them into a competent and safe scrub and circulating nurse. The orientees are taught via lecture, simulation and real-time clinical scenarios.

Special thanks to the orientees, their family members, their preceptors, OR leadership, senior leadership and the Center for Professional Development and Research for making the program a huge success! Seven of the graduates are on staff in the main operating room, four will be on staff at the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center and one will join our pediatric OR team.

For the first time, our catheterization lab performed TherOx Supersaturated Oxygen Therapy in a patient following a major heart attack (anterior wall MI). This advanced treatment helps reduce heart muscle damage and lowers the risk of death or heart failure within a year.
