Centrality Physical Therapy & Wellness is a physical therapy clinic specializing in pelvic floor physical therapy and wellness for all individuals from pediatrics into adulthood in New Canaan. The Pelvic Health Rehab Specialists at Centrality Wellness blend orthopedics and specialty training in pelvic floor conditions to address the “common but not optimal” conditions many individuals feel they must “just live with.” Common conditions that are improved with pelvic rehab treatment include urinary or f***l leakage (think coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, etc.), constipation (pain with pooping, hemorrhoids, fissures), pelvic pain (pain with sitting, pain with s*x, inability to wear tampons), hip or low back pain, birth preparation, or changes due to pregnancy or postpartum (DRA, SPD), and childhood constipation/stool withholding, urgency, recurrent UTIs, or bed wetting. They aim to create space for you to learn about your body, heal, and get you back to meeting your goals and living your best life. No one should live with what we call “normal” when there is help. Both in-person and virtual options are available.

Use the code FCMGUIDE or reference the FCM Wellness Guide when you call to book and receive $25 off your initial evaluation.

Been silent on the gram as we have been gearing up for this BIG weekend filled with a Birthday Bash with friends & Family, First Father’s Day celebrations, & Zoo day on nicks actual birthday.

Happy first Father’s Day & a very happy birthday, my love. YOU are so loved beyond measure. 💗There is no one else I’d want to do this crazy roller coaster of life with.

Six weeks is the starting line, not the finish. It is not a magical timeline to return to all activities & that’s a pretty short window to expect to be “fully healed” & ready to jump into most activities after being pregnant, laboring / giving birth to my kid & to a new version of ourselves.⁣

I was completely depleted postpartum, in the throes of PPA & knew I needed to reconnect with my body + get strong before lacing up again to run⁣

Luckily I was lifting 3x per week & walking minimum 30 minutes per day until I gave birth. But did you know many individuals do not meet exercise requirements & 50% report they stop working out during pregnancy for a mired of reasons, but this further perpetuates that we are not strong enough to “just lace up” and run at 6 weeks. Our body (& pelvic floor) isn’t prepared.⁣

I can only speak to my life; but what I can say is that My life has shifted; it’s down-right magical & challenging AF. my daily demands/schedule look a lot different than pre-pregnancy. I did not want to rush, returning to running, and do some things potentially more detrimental. I had to be strategic about how I returned, so let’s talk about MY PROCESS. Starting at:⁣

- weeks 2-4: breathing + core connection ⁣
- Weeks 4-6: short walks + initiating gentle strength that mirrored my daily tasks. I am still progressing my strength programming to this day. ⁣
- Weeks 12-16: plyometric introduction ⁣
- Week 20-21: reintroduce running, starting with intervals with higher walk ratios⁣

I used a 2019 study by Tom Goom, who studied postpartum individuals returning to exercise & aimed to summarize the best literature to generate a practice guideline, to support my decision making.⁣

I made sure to track my symptoms & keep an eye out for 🚩:⁣

Pelvic pressure or heaviness ⁣
Urinary leakage ⁣
Low back or hip pain ⁣
DRA symptoms ⁣

These were signs I was doing too much!⁣

If you are looking to return to running postpartum, (or any high impact activity), before you lace up at 6 weeks consider getting STRONG first. Find a pelvic PT/OT to help you along your journey ⁣

Did you feel ready to run at 6 weeks?

Swipey swipe to learn.

💜And remember, giving birth should be an automatic referral to a pelvic health therapist. It isn’t too late.
