With the rise of “elite” travel teams and increased competition for positions on these teams, more children at younger ages are focusing on one sport, playing it all year round; about 70% of kids are now playing just one sport by the age of 13.
Unfortunately, these children experience injuries at twice the rate of kids who play multiple sports, including stress fractures, injuries to the areas around growth plates, and chronic pain and declining function of tendons.
Playing multiple sports also decreases burnout and builds better athleticism overall.
