Recently, Waveny Inn residents enjoyed a cultural outing to the Katonah Museum of Art, where they explored the Sublime Geometries exhibition on loan from the William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation. Engaging in art not only enriches lives but also promotes mental well-being and social interaction among seniors. Waveny LifeCare Network is dedicated to creating opportunities that foster holistic health through cultural experiences.

A Pathway for CNAs to Become Licensed Practical Nurses

Waveny LifeCare Network is proud to participate in an ambitious and compassionate initiative aimed at transforming the healthcare workforce by advancing Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) into Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). As a key partner in a two-day Design Sprint held at the New Canaan Library, Waveny joined forces with CT State Norwalk, Open Doors, and Career Resources, Inc. to develop an innovative, community-based pathway for professional growth in nursing.
This initiative is the result of a 10-month collaboration funded by the Centering Workers in Job Design grant and built on Human-Centered Design principles. Together, this unique coalition is launching a pilot program, set to begin later this year, that will provide working CNAs with structured opportunities to earn LPN credentials and elevate their nursing careers.
Waveny’s leadership in this effort builds on its successful Kathleen M. Fruin, RN Nursing School, which provides free tuition, career mentorship, and immediate job placement. By integrating this new pathway, Waveny is creating a powerful opportunity for caregivers from the moment they enter the healthcare field through their continued professional development. “This initiative is not just about training more nurses,” said Russell R. Barksdale, Jr., President & CEO of Waveny LifeCare Network. “It’s about investing in the people who provide compassionate healthcare every day. By helping students take the next step in their journey, we’re addressing the nursing shortage at its roots and building a stronger, more resilient system of care.”
The program is a model of cross-sector collaboration and a testament to Waveny’s unwavering commitment to people—whether it’s the patients and families they serve or the dedicated professionals who care for them.

Exciting News! 🎉
Waveny LifeCare Network was proud to take part in a 2-day Design Sprint at New Canaan Library to help create a new career pathway for CNAs to become LPNs!

In partnership with CT State Norwalk, Open Doors, and Career Resources, Inc., we used a Human-Centered Design approach to co-create solutions that support and empower our healthcare workforce.

This initiative builds on our existing Kathleen M. Fruin, RN Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) School and will offer even more opportunities for our graduates to grow, learn, and thrive in the field of nursing.

👏 Big thanks to everyone who participated—and stay tuned as we pilot this exciting program this fall!

One of the unique aspects of living at The Inn is the artwork that adorns the walls. These are works from local artists that change seasonally. As part of the curated collection, the artist will come and speak to residents about their art - the process they use, the inspiration and other aspects of their work. Right now, we have a large collection of mixed media pieces from artist Meg Le Comte who came to speak to residents about her work this week. Thank you to Meg and all the artists for making the Inn such a beautiful place to live!

New Canaan is filled with rich history. Today, residents from the Inn took a field trip to The John Rogers Studio and Museum just down the street. His studio building is now a National Historic Landmark. John Rogers was a renowned 19th-century American sculptor known as "the people's sculptor". The studio, built in 1878, is now part of the New Canaan Museum and Historical Society and houses a collection of his statuettes. Thank you for your hospitality!
