The Forward Healthcare shut down is not very surprising to me, healthcare (especially primary care) is deeply personal and packaging it in shiny new technology simply cannot replace the human relationships involved.

When it comes to ordering biomarkers and assessing genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's a personalized approach makes all the difference. ✨

In a world of 15 minute appointments and patient portals, concierge medicine offers the ideal setting for these complex and proactive discussions and I'm so happy to be able to bring next level care like this to my patients. 🧠✅

🧠 As the end of June approaches so does the end of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness month. 👩‍⚕️

🌿In recent years we have increasingly learned of the relevance of a test called ApoE4. 🧬🧬 People who have two copies of the ApoE4 gene are at 10x increased risk of developing Alzheimer's, and according to some experts "almost certain to develop" the disease"

Although not FDA approved, a blood test for ApoE4 is available and it can also be detected by well known over the counter genetic testing programs such as
Most of my patients have elected not to know their ApoE4 Status, but there are known modifiable risk factors and possibly some supplements (such as Choline and Omega-3's) that may turn out to make a difference for patients at increased risk.

No one is talking about this but we are increasingly closing in on the ability to diagnose Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia before obvious symptoms arrive.

As the number of people with dementia in the United States grows, many observers believe that diagnosis will have to happen in primary care. How can PCPs be prepared for this new and complex role?
