✨ Continued✨

During pregnancy, Krista answered every question with patience and care, giving us the tools and confidence we needed. Whenever I had concerns after a doctor’s appointment or moments of nervousness, she was the calming resource I could always turn to.

When it came time for labor, her presence was absolutely invaluable. She knew exactly how to support me both physically and emotionally, creating a safe and peaceful environment where I could focus fully on the process. Krista was also an incredible support for my husband. She gave him the confidence to know how to help me during labor and guided him in a way that made him feel included and empowered, never sidelined.

Her support didn’t stop after birth. Krista checked in during those early postpartum days, reassured me when I felt uncertain, and offered thoughtful resources when needed.

The birth photos Krista took were absolutely amazing. She did an incredible job capturing a once in a lifetime moment. They will be something we cherish forever.

Looking back, I can’t imagine going through birth without her. My husband and I both agree that we want Krista by our side for any future births as well. Hiring her was one of the best decisions we made, and I will forever be grateful for her support.

You never have to consent to anything you don’t want to during pregnancy and birth, not even if it is a life saving intervention.

Every appointment, test, and recommendation is completely your choice to accept or decline.

Reframing our language around choices that we make can create a meaningful difference when dealing with the effects of that choice.

You chose to fight.
You chose to live.
You chose to survive.
You chose to accept help.
There is power and peace in owning your decisions.

It’s been a while since I introduced myself so here it goes!

My name is Krista and I own and operate Connected Mumma Doula. My degree in child development, paired with the births of my daughters led me to want to support families during this period of transformation.

I am passionate about educating clients about their options and rights in the labor space. I also love helping parents prepare for life once baby arrives.

In my personal life I enjoy thrifting, hiking, and going on adventures with my girls. If I’m not at a birth, I’m probably at home homeschooling my girls and listening to a podcast. We have 2 kitty boys, and the sweetest big headed Pitty girl you ever saw.

I am booking into the summer and fall so if you’re expecting, don’t hesitate to reach out!

✨Golden hour ✨

Golden hour is the first hour (or 2) after a baby is born.

During this time baby is transitioning to life outside the womb. Keeping baby skin to skin during this transition helps regulate their temperature, breathing rate, blood sugar, and helps promote breastfeeding.

Skin to skin during golden hour also helps your body transition to postpartum. Babies wiggles stimulate the uterus from the outside. Nursing sends oxytocin to the uterus helping it contract down to slow postpartum bleeding.

The number one indicator of your birth outcome is who you hire to care for you during pregnancy and labor. Picking the hospital or provider closest to your house isn’t cutting it anymore.

Most moms spend hours researching the best bassinet, noise machine, diapers, and every other baby accessory you can imagine. However most people planing to give birth go to the closest provider to their homes, without doing any research.

Your provider should be aligned with you and your vision for how to be cared for throughout your pregnancy. Don’t ignore red flags like having questions dismissed at appointments.

The only time it’s too late to switch your care team is once baby is here!

✨Birth photography✨

3 reasons why I think birth photography is a must!

1. You may not remember a whole lot of details about your birth. Hormones are a powerful player in labor. They often take people giving birth into a realm I like to call labor land. Having photos from your labor, and birth can be a helpful tool to piece together your birth story.

2. These days we have our cell phones ready to snap a picture at any moment, but out sourcing this task can allow both parents to be present in the fleeting moments.

3. The quality of cell phone photos have come a long way in the past few years, but in the low lighting and high action that is labor and postpartum it can be challenging to get the good shots on a cell phone. Birth photography comes back to you in a beautifully edited album ready to be admired however you see fit.

If you had birth photography during your birth, what was the best part about receiving your album?

✨The placenta ✨

Usually birthing the placenta is an afterthought when preparing for labor. However you have options even when it comes to the 3rd stage of birth!

Physiological management of the placenta is an option, but usually something you have to be ready to advocate for.

Physiological management looks like bringing baby skin to skin immediately after they’re born. Babies movements on the belly help stimulate the uterus externally. Getting baby to the breast to nurse helps boost oxytocin, which helps the uterus continue contracting. Using gravity and bearing down can help birth the placenta once it has detached.

Active management of the placenta is standard when birthing at a hospital. Active management includes getting Pitocin once baby has arrived, either via IV or injection. Then a provider massages the belly, or top of the uterus. To encourage the birth of the placenta traction or tugging on the umbilical cord is done.

“As a first-time dad, I can honestly say I had no idea what I was getting into when it came to the birthing process. I felt overwhelmed by how much I didn’t know, but hiring Krista was easily the best decision we made throughout the entire pregnancy. From the moment we first spoke, she was a constant source of calm and information. She patiently answered every single one of my questions and took the time to explain all the options available to us. Crucially, she didn’t just support my wife; she taught me how to best advocate for her and feel like an active, prepared partner.

When it came time for the birth, Krista was an absolute rock star. She was right there, by my wife’s side, providing hands-on support and encouragement exactly when it was needed. She was instrumental in maintaining a positive environment, constantly and respectfully advocating for my wife’s wishes with the hospital staff. Her presence allowed me to focus on comforting my wife, knowing that we had a professional championing our preferences every step of the way. She made a potentially stressful event feel manageable and incredibly supported.

The support didn’t end once our baby arrived. Post-birth, Krista referred us to an excellent lactation consultant who made a huge difference in those first few weeks. As a bonus, she captured some truly wonderful professional photos of our first family moments that we will treasure forever. We felt fully supported, informed, and cared for from the initial meeting until well after we got home. We cannot recommend Krista highly enough to any expecting parents, especially first-time dads who, like me, need a patient guide through this amazing, yet daunting, experience.”

“Krista was the perfect doula we could ask for. We had to go for an induction at short notice, and despite the urgency, Krista helped us prepare our birth plan within a couple of hours. She empowered us with knowledge about our rights at the hospital and ensured we could stay true to our birth plan, which was crucial as some of the doctors on our team tended to push their own agendas.

Our induction lasted four days, and Krista stayed with us throughout, providing constant reassurance at every step. As an added bonus, she also clicked wonderful pictures throughout the process, capturing precious moments we will cherish forever.

Krista’s dedication, knowledge, and supportive nature made all the difference during our childbirth experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better doula.”

Pregnancy, labor, and birth are wildly unpredictable. Part of my job as your doula is to help you navigate curve balls that may come your way. Just because your plan needs to change does not mean it has to be a terrible or traumatic experience. You still have options and rights!
