Badger Clark: Poetry Wrangler
by Nancy Bo Flood, illustrations by Jeanne Bowman
Badger Clark (1883–1957), South Dakota’s first poet laureate, is best known for his “A Cowboy’s Prayer,” erroneously attributed to Anonymous and a mainstay at rodeos across the United States. His plain and simple verses spoke of his love for the land and a deep appreciation for a life lived close to nature. Badger Clark: Poetry Wrangler tells the story of this iconic Western writer and celebrates his enduring poetry.
Nancy Bo Flood’s work has focused on children and young adults as a counselor, teacher, parent, and an author. During the past twenty years, Nancy has lived on the Navajo Nation, working with teachers to develop relevant curriculum and guiding and encouraging students to write their own stories. Her books have won numerous awards, including Colorado Book of the Year.

Sonia and the Super-Duper Disaster
by Rachel Funez, illustrated by Kelly Kennedy
Sonia’s adventure-filled story with worry-fighting gadgets helps kids learn how to cope when it feels like everything is going wrong.
Rachel Funez was born in the United States, spent most of her childhood living in Latin America, and is now an attorney raising multicultural children in Peru with her Honduran American husband. Rachel knows exactly what it’s like to have ADHD and anxiety. She wishes she could hug every kid who is struggling with overwhelming feelings, but she will settle for creating stories that celebrate children with special brains and help them cope with their big emotions in productive ways.
