Dr. Banting’s medical practice has now been open for a full month. How much did he earn? His total July income was $4 (which is equivalent in purchasing power to about $48.71 today). Dr. Banting’s practice would see an increase in patients in the coming months.

Dr. Banting saw another patient, a soldier seeking a liquor prescription. Banting did not record this patient in his ledger, but the story can be found in his memoir.

"My first patient wanted a liquor prescription. He was an honest solider who had friends visiting him and wanted to give them a drink. I gave him the prescription and considered myself rather highly trained for the barkeeping business." - from Dr. Banting's Memoir.

Dr. Banting made quite a few paintings throughout his life, but this untitled painting, gift of Stephen Klinck, is the only one known to survive from the 1920s.

“My happiest hours of this period were spent thus trying to copy pictures mostly from old magazines or books. I was very proud of some of them.” – Dr. Banting from his memoir.

One of Dr. Banting's professional friends in London, was Dr. W.P Tew who also opened up his own practice in London in 1920.

"[Tew] was much better off for he had taken over an office in a downtown district and was specializing in obstetrics of which I knew nothing except what was in text books." - Dr. Banting from his memoirs.
